Pros
- The survey function allows user to see responses in a variety of ways - by responder, by question, by department/cost center. It also allows the user (author) to have the survey anonymous.
- The benefits function allows employees to see their benefits at a glance, and the economic impact on their check.
- The payroll team does a good job at responding to state-specific changes in the rate of withholdings if they're sent in a timely manner.
- The community function sends messages to administrators on a monthly basis to remind them of upcoming birthdays and service anniversaries
- Paylocity's app is excellent for end-users
Cons
- The functions don't talk to one other well. If I terminate an employee who has benefits (all information is in Paylocity), I feel it should know that they need a COBRA letter; I should not have to go into a separate screen to launch COBRA notification.
- The performance tools are difficult to use; they are not intuitive and difficult for those not using them every day.
- The applicant profiles in 'Recruiting' should have a section for free-style notes so administrators can leave specific notes for each other
- Training/ Help is poor. Make it easier to find answers to questions on how to use the tools.
- Saves us time on payroll and with minimal errors in withholdings
- Allows us to see the status of completion for Onboarding Tasks
- Gives us a single location to reference sent messages
We trust Paylocity's calculations of our withholding taxes as well as tax payments and form filing. It saves times and reduces errors. And we appreciate that we can send notices that we receive to them (from states and municipalities) and they handle the inquiries on our behalf.
When we have filled a job opening, we only have to close it in Paylocity, and we know that it will automatically update on our website and the respective job boards - we don't need to 'pull' the posting from each platform individually.
It's easy to help employees who wish to make a change to their dependents or benefits; we can walk next to them as they're making the change.

Surveys are so easy to develop, push out, and aggregate. And Paylocity includes visual representations (graphs, etc) of the data to help when presenting the information to others. And it's nice to have a central location for previous survey data for easy reference for all administrators. It's nice to know exactly where something is stored.
We record our monthly company meetings, and the Video Hub is a great tool our employees can use to find previously-recorded videos.
We send notices to 'groups' - based on work location and other demographics. It's nice to be able to do this easily through the 'groups' function. It saves us time from re-creating lists, and we know the message sent will be stored in an easy-to-find location.

Products have a lot of the same functions, so I believe the key is to pick a product and stick with it - commit to learning how it functions, and train employees to do the same. Flip-flopping between products is the worst you can do.
Your success with a product is also dependent on the skill of your implementation team. I've been involved with employers who had pay periods set up incorrectly, and it caused pay shortages any time a month had less than 31 days.
