Overall Satisfaction with Progress ShareFile

We use Progress ShareFile to share files outside of our company and to remove large attachments from emails. We had several people who would use things like Dropbox and ShareFile gives us a safer, company controlled tool that provides similar functionality.

Pros

  • It is great for sharing files outside the company. It offers tools to verify that the end user is the person you want to get the files and lets you do things like expire the access to the files.
  • The Outlook client is great at taking large files that are attached to an email and moves them to Progress ShareFile and sends out a link to the file.
  • It provides me with a place to store my files and gives me the ability to access those files from anywhere on almost any device.

Cons

  • The web console is not the most user friendly site to use to get to, and send my files.
  • We have had users that have not liked the change in workflow to get files from Progress ShareFile when they were used to just clicking on files on an email.
  • That management of the tools are not the most user friendly. There have been some improvements but keeping up with certs and setting up new users can be more work than expected.
  • We are looking at expanding our use for our teams like HR to make sure they are not sending out sensitive data
  • We didn't really have a tool like this so I don't have a ROI.
Progress ShareFile has helped us pull in file sharing at our company. It used to be the wild wild west with people using whatever they could find. We now offer a secure, company controlled way to share files. Our users have enjoyed being able to get notification on when people download the files they send out.
Progress ShareFile has given an easy way to share file. The Outlook plug-in can automatically convert attachments to Progress ShareFile links. This allows user to work in Outlook and send files in a way they are familiar with using. There are many option users can chose to help them work they way they want to work.
Dropbox and others like Mega is are open to anyone and when they leave your company they take those documents with them. ShareFile give secure sharing but you keep control of your documents. ShareFile also offers other tools like Outlook plug-ins and windows mapping tools.

Progress ShareFile has been a great tool for sharing files. When you send to outside people they get an easy link to click on to download the needed files. On the sender side you get options to have the person do things logon to get the file, just enter a name and email address, or just click on the link and download.

There are hooks to use other tools to scan for personal information like SSN or credit card numbers. Many of our users use email to send and store emails.

They have found that clicking on a link to get a file adds a bit of complexity but many have learned how to adjust to the change.
