Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Online is used for all accounting data. We use another software for invoicing, but it feeds into QuickBooks Online beautifully. We use classes and departments to track costs. This allows us to track costs better.

Pros

  • Syncs with bank and credit card accounts
  • Almost does bank and credit card reconciliations itself
  • Budgets
  • Syncs with other software

Cons

  • We use classes and departments to track costs. The one issue I have found is being able to use both variables with budget reporting.
  • I feel the use of the receipt email is not smooth or effective.
  • More separation of Departments/Locations. It would be helpful to have help deciding how to set up a company for their specific needs. I thought I had done a great job until I learned about the limitations on Budget Vs. Actual reporting.
  • Makes reporting to stakeholders easy.
Because it is so intuitive and easy to use. There is a lot of functionality in the product. I did not realize there was different levels of software ie, Accountant version vs. Standard version. My first experience with the online version was the accountant version. When I moved jobs, I had the Standard version and was missing so functionality. I didn't know why until I researched it online and found out about the different versions. As an accountant, the accountant version is the only one I would want. I guess those overseen by accountants, it secures their position. However, this leaves us accountants without the functionality we need.
I used Avalara for 1099's I would use QuickBooks Online, however, for the few we do, it is more cost effective to use Avalara.

QuickBooks Online has always been the most intuitive accounting software to use. It has a variety of features that help different types of businesses. I have used it in several different industries. Construction using estimates and progress billing, multi product company tracking costs for each one, and even one using inventory and several locations.
