Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have used other software for informal communications, and Skype is superior to them because of its many features. It includes built-in screen sharing, and training or visual communication with other sites is much easier now.

Return on Investment

It is a tool only, and has not positively or negatively impacted business goals. Moody employees seem to use it recreationally (e.g. sidebar conversations with coworkers), but this has been good for morale.

Alternatives Considered

IBM Sametime and Avaya Communicator

Skype had many more features than any of the programs we have used in the past. It also supports calendar and Outlook functionality, both of which the others only did in a limited way.

Likelihood to Recommend

Skype is fantastic for exchanging ideas with colleagues that are located at another site. Sometimes you just want to have a printed document in front of you and point out specific areas in a discussion. The screen sharing functionality eliminates the need for a more formal WebEx-type presentation.
