Overall Satisfaction with Skype

I used Skype at my old company. We loved the ability to IM, the Outlook calendar integration, the ability to meet on demand or schedule future meetings. The emoticons were hit for our emoji lovers. We used it across the entire company, in which we had both remote employees and those working at headquarters. It made conversations easier.

  • Security
  • Modernization
  • Sleek UI
  • Decrease in travel costs.
  • Increase in productivity.
  • Decrease in miscommunications.
  • Increase in employee satisfaction.
It was already a part of our Microsoft subscription, tied to everyone's email address account, making it easier to manage. It is limiting when trying to have conversations with external people.
Skype is great for one-to-one, maybe one-to-5 ratio for communication. When you get many more folks in a room/on a phone call, there tends to be a lot of noise, literally and figuratively. Appropriate for smaller companies, <500 employees. Much more than that, and it becomes hard to manage.

Using Skype

400 - Everything except engineering/product development. They communicate using Slack. The ability to share gifs, host multiple rooms, and a sleek interface made it more attractive for those folks.
