Overall Satisfaction with Slack
We use Slack for many of our internal communications: daily scrum, weekly company video meetings, daily communication between team members. We have a project management suite of course, as well as an email suite and Gsuite, but I'd say 90% of our instantaneous team communication comes through Slack. For a fully remote company, this is a pretty significant part of our business, so it needs to be fast and easy. Slack fits the bill.
- Instant communication
- Group meetings
- Asynchronous communication
- Video calls are sometimes wonky, though better than they used to be.
- Responses to a particular comment begin a thread, which is kind of useful, but this thread is a single layer deep (ie no responding to a particular comment inside the thread) and I think another layer or two would be nice.
- There should be an option to open the thread below the comment responded to rather than just in the thin sidebar.
- Team instantaneous communication
- Team asynchronous communication
- Outside organization communication
- Easier collaboration
- Better team meetings
- Quick and easy responses to questions
Discord had most of the same features that we wanted to use, and worked pretty well for most of our use cases. Unfortunately, it was glitchy and just not as refined as Slack. Plus outside organizations that we want to connect with often weren't on Discord, so we had to keep Slack around just to keep tabs on those anyhow, so we went back to Slack for our internal team communication as well.
