Overall Satisfaction with Slack
Our organization uses Slack as communication tool and a bridge between our in-office resources and the remote resources (of which there are many). Slack really solves a few business problems, the first being the already mentioned bridge between remote and in-office employees, but another solution provided would be the ease of conducting company wide announcements with real-time feedback and awareness. This helps to breed a deeper engagement for all the resources as well as creating an environment that facilitates communication.
Pros
- Documentation
- Organization
- Customization
- Fast
Cons
- Server Issues. Slack seems to encounter frequent server issues, with that said they usually don't last very long.
- Nuances between the phone app and desktop app can be difficult to navigate.
- I do wish group chats were handled a bit differently. In their current form it's easy to get them confused since the names only show the first one or two members of the group (which could be the same in multiple groups).
- Robust Notification options allow for quick responses during critical issues.
- Virtual Collaboration allows less travelling for resources.
- Documentation and ease of searching saves a ton of time for everyone
Slack is a much more robust solution (in the case of Google Chat), and must easier to use than something like Microsoft Teams (which is a literal nightmare to use, not to mention expensive!). I would choose slack every day of the week, and I believe my coworkers would too.
