A great backup solution for Secure Remote Access
Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop
We used Splashtop to remote into client computers when we have an emergency. At times, Connectwise will not work and we still need to remote in easily. It is used across our whole company, but really only in certain situations where our normal RMM agent is failing. The price is low enough where it makes sense to have a backup way to remote in here.
Pros
- Onboarding for new computers is very simple
- Can be more reliable than Connectwise in some situations
- Connection is encrypted and secure so there is no risks from hackers.
Cons
- Needs a snapshot feature to see the current state of client PCs
- Mac Support is not on the level of the competition.
- At times will drop the connection.
- Splashtop helps us complete 3% more tickets in situations where the normal agent has failed.
- We have gained two additional clients for the MSP this year since we were already familiar with the setup the client was using.
- Splashtop is good for us to have in the arsenal when every other method to remote in has failed.
We use two factor authentication is get access to Splashtop initially. We have not seen any issues where attackers were able to brute force a password and also copy our 2FA to gain access to the system. We also have not seen any issues where attackers were able to intercept unencrypted data from sessions so we are happy with the secure side of the product.
Onboarding was an easy process. The agent works well to get rolling on Mac or a Windows PC. We have a few Linux machines and it seems like Splashtop would work on these as well. Our rep gave us a checklist to follow for onboarding new clients which was very helpful. No big surprises when using on various platforms for the first time. You can get it all setup in under 15 minutes.
