Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop

Needing to access several computers monthly to perform accounting duties, Splashtop enables me to log in with or without additional passwords into clients' computers and they don't have to be available to send a passcode. It has saved me many hours and dollars driving to long-distance clients and for those I only meet with occasionally, I can send unlimited one-time links and meet with the client sharing their screen and speaking on the phone to train them or assist in technical matters that require I view what they are describing. A virtual lifesaver in many cases and the prices are reasonable!

Pros

  • Quick connections - very short time to connect
  • Can re-size windows to fit my viewing ease
  • Sending the link via email for client to download a small app makes it convenient for one-time use - and it's unlimited for the lowest-priced plan

Cons

  • You don't allow me to "blank" out the screen on one-time uses. Sometimes I NEED to do that when a client 'allows' me in, then needs to leave. I work with sensitive financial and payroll data on occasion and I need that as an option... even if it requires a quick 'permission' to do it. Also, dealing with some medical professionals, there are HIPAA regulations, so I need to be able to comply.
  • Deployment of unattended access could be a little easier to find; when I don't do this often, it can be a little cumbersome.
  • One "unattended access" computer doesn't allow me to change the name (and keep the name). I don't like accidentally logging into a client computer and startling them - which can also lead to distrust. I always let a client know I am going to log into their unattended access computer - for trust concerns.
  • It would be NICE to be able to turn on a PC that has been turned off on unattended access. I have a couple clients who power down and, if they are out of town, it would be nice for me to be able to power them up if necessary (I can always power them off again after)
  • Splashtop has saved me a lot of time (and gas/mileage on my car) not having to travel 40 minutes to do 15-30 minutes of work with a number of clients.
  • I has made me more time efficient and allowed to accomplish work quickly without a lot of downtime in the car.
  • It's price point is reasonable; hopefully you won't jump on the JACK-UP-PRICE train that every other company keeps doing. It's affordable for my use but if the prices skyrockets like so many other programs, it will affect my desire to continue to use it.
I only needed assistance once that I can remember. It wasn't the fastest response. It would be nice to be able to call in during a time-sensitive issue. I dislike 'putting in a ticket' to get help; especially when I'm in a hurry during busy times.
I like the two-factor authentication is okay, but it sends an email, which is sometimes quite slow. In fact, at first, it took a long time (1/2 hour) which, when you're on an hourly clock billing a client, can waste time. I DISLIKE this whole two-factor authentication - it wastes a lot of time and everybody seems to want to do it... ONCE PER DEVICE should be enough... but it's not always. This gets very annoying. I know everyone thinks that makes it secure, but I'm not so sure given all the hacking I've been hearing about.. ugh.
It took a good learning curve; wasn't the easiest thing to learn. Once up and running, however, it's fine.

Yes

Did implementation of Splashtop go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Splashtop again?

Yes

Well suited for screen sharing when I contact a client and need to be able to see what they are doing for training. It's only not appropriate if there is a large volume of hard-copy paper statements (etc) that I need to see which requires in-person meeting. Either by volume (or lack of client skill), it would be too much to scan the paperwork and email it. However, it WOULD be nice if they had a means to take a photo and upload it during a session rather than (for the non-techie folks) taking a picture and texting it to me.
