Overall Satisfaction with TriNet

They are generally timely in their responses to questions / inquiries, but often the answer is technically oriented and not always helpful in understanding how to not only process something on the platform, but also to achieve a particular result.
Once they complete their website upgrade this score would raise several points. The historical platform is very outdated and is difficult to navigate and use for both administrators and end users (employees).
We utilize TriNet across our entire organization. It is our provider of benefits, payroll, and other employee services. There are several employees that utilize the administrative functions and then all of our employees access the TriNet portal at times for self service activities.

Pros

  • TriNet helps even the smallest (just a few employees) companies get up and running quickly in the area of pay and benefits.
  • The solution is comprehensive and they provide a broad selection of alternatives, especially in the area of benefits.
  • The entire platform is cloud based and does not require any locally hosted software or documents.

Cons

  • They are in the midst of a platform upgrade that is badly needed. The historical system is outdated in look, feel, and capabilities. It does all of the necessary functions, but is not very user friendly and navigation is difficult and non-logical.
  • One challenge is that the broad offering of benefits can be overwhelming to employees when they first join. Finding a way to "band" or "group" benefits options to help with evaluation and selection would reduce confusion on the part of new employees.
  • There are very specific rules and timing requirements for key steps (e.g. I9 processing timelines, employee terminations, etc) that are not transparent on the platform and make the processing of some things more complicated than needed.
  • TriNet has enabled us to compliantly offer pay and benefits to our employee base for the last 2+ years.
  • TriNet has required increased time and effort related to administrative tasks as our employee base has grown and the platform does not link well with other non-TriNet applications, including reporting that makes it harder for us to do analysis and other work as needed.
TriNet is very well suited for early stage companies that are just getting started. They provide an end to end solution that allows small organizations to offer competitive pay & benefits packages immediately. It is not the ideal platform for when companies reach 50 to 75 employees or when they expand to having employees outside of the U.S.
