I use TrustRadius to do an initial review of available options in the market when our organization is looking at replacing or implementing a new solution. It provides a list of solutions in the industry and reviews from users that actually use the product/company. It helps narrow our focus on solutions that will best fit our needs and not waste time evaluating products that would never work for our environment or business. It also reduces cold calling and wasted time with product demo's that are not from best in class providers.

Garner has been good when looking at where it falls in the industry but is not tailored for the different types of industries. For example, a bank or pharmaceutical company will have a completely different need and support structure than a retail organization. It will also have different PCI, SOX, or HIPPA requirements
Online demo's and product video availability without having to engage a sales rep is great because I love to get a feel for the product myself without a biased salesman trying to force me to buy something. Videos and reviews are a great starting point, but the on hands feel is where the most value is gained.
