Overall Satisfaction with WordPress

Several of the agencies and freelancers I manage use WordPress as their chosen CMS for their B2B sites. It serves the purpose of offering a shopfront for them in the online world and giving them flexibility of setup.

Pros

  • Price point is affordable
  • Flexibility of the platform is good
  • Technical capabilities and scalability
  • SEO can be good

Cons

  • The amount of flexibility often means that technical foundations can be bad
  • Lack of vetting or moderation of wordpress themes
  • Often very liable to attacks from hackers or bots
  • Low maintenence costs
  • Ability to launch new landing pages quickly/easily
  • High conversion if designed right
It certainly has it's own limitations, being mainly the technical foundations not being strict within themes sold on different platforms. However, its flexibility is both a pro and a con and it does allow for companies to move quickly with little restrictions of their work which means scaling a business is easier. In theory any design is possible
WordPress has the most open abilities to change the technical foundations. Whereas, other platforms typically have their own niches of use cases; e.g. focusing on page builders, drag and drop, more static code, themes etc... WordPress offers a bit more flexibilities as it can work in all these ways dependent on the theme and the setup of your WordPress store.

Do you think WordPress delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with WordPress's feature set?

Yes

Did WordPress live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of WordPress go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy WordPress again?

Yes

I would certainly recommend WordPress in the context of smaller startups or freelancers with limited funds. The ongoing costs are a lot lower than that of other competitors such as Squarespace, Wix, or Weebly even. Whilst it is not great for D2C and ecommerce it is often a good platform for brochure sites.
