123FormBuilder (formerly 123ContactForm)

This is great for setting up workshops and trainings. You know right away when people sign up so you can send out materials. The reporting is useful when meeting with colleagues or administrators. You can easily customize them to meet any need. It can be useful when collecting payments for events, such as field trips or prom. You just need to specify how payment can be made, as not all payment types work with this

FormAssembly

FormAssembly has been an essential tool to have in our back pocket. It's best when you need a form quickly and can compromise on some of the dynamic elements that would be possible in Visualforce. It serves a particularly critical need when skilled developers are at a premium, but clever admins are available.

Pros

  • We could build html forms with little or no html experience. This is empowering.
  • We were notified right away when someone completed a form. This was helpful with scheduling workshops, among other things.
  • The reporting feature was great, as it was easy for administrators to see results at a glance.
  • Salesforce Integration
  • Customizable logic for filling forms and pushing information to other places
  • Ability to embed into website

Cons

  • Some employees are intimidated at first. After all, it is html.
  • There is so much functionality that it can be easy for novices to get lost.
  • Will there be more payment flexibility? parents use more of the bank to person payment options.
  • The price is a bit higher than other options.

One major point for us is our migration to a completely Microsoft infrastructure. IN addition to that, the afore mentioned need to ingest external data resources means that we do have our eyes open toward the landscape so that we can fill these needs. This in no way indicates a move away from FormAssembly: their support is first rate, and so far the product has always stood up to the tests we've put it through.

While it's not a true development package and misses some features like ingestion of external data for lists, etc... the product is fast, stable, easy to use, and will suit the needs of anyone needing online form functionality with SalesForce and other connectors available for your marketing needs.

Online Training

I installed 123ContactForm myself and while I had some issues installing it I was able to visit their website and the troubleshooting information they provided in their faq section. They did offer other support if a user needed additional support, but I found the information provided on their website to be more than sufficient

Alternatives Considered

I think functionality between 123FormBuilder and other options is quite similar, in most cases. Where I found 123FormBuilder to be a significant winner was with regard to ease of use, and overall UX. Robust, simple, accessible, effective, and customizable are the keywords I'd highlight that helped me choose 123FormBuilder with complete confidence. That's not to say the other options will fail you, but you surely can't go wrong with 123FormBuilder.
We considered a few others - Jot, conga, etc. We landed on FormAssembly mainly for the SalesForce integration. It's just so clean, and you get SO MANY options. The way that you can automatically create cases/leads (and do so conditionally) was huge for our support team. We've saved so much time by just creating some solid rules that our organization can depend on, and FormAssembly/SalesForce take care of the rest.

Return on Investment

  • It was hard to put a numerical ROI on the use of 123FormBuilder, but it saved time, collected required data swiftly, and provided the data in easily accessible formats.
  • I don't believe there were any negative impacts from the use of 123FormBuilder.
  • FormAssembly allows staff to gather better data and not have to do so much manual entry. This allows staff to focus their energies on other mission critical items.
  • FormAssembly helps to improve data quality by reducing duplicates and enforcing data quality.
