ActivTrak
A scenario where it is well suited is determining why a certain task was not accomplished as it shows time spent on certain websites and if the usage was appropriate. I think less appropriate is the idle time as there are some scenarios where a computer is not necessary, and the task may be a manual one

It's very user friendly and easy to use. Rules can be managed on user-friendly interface web site console. For-example, violation can be release via management module. It provide prevention sensitive data against accidental data loss and compromised. Rule set sometimes work, sometimes does not work. There is no OCR feature. Forcepoint DLP tool does not have any AI feature that can learn user behavior or data and produces alarm.

Pros
ActivTrak
  • ActivTrak gives me a breakdown of hours during which my employees were actively working, when they were active online but unproductive, when they were inactive, and when they were not online.
  • ActivTrak gives me a detailed breakdown of the software, platforms, and programs my employees worked on/in during each block of the day.
  • ActivTrak provides a detailed breakdown of how I spend my time each day to help me improve my productivity.

  • It has predominantly protected us from unauthorized parties and has provided us with better visibility and control over our data.
  • This software has also successfully prevented us from both malicious and accidental tasks, which are quite flexible actions when it comes to the violation of data loss prevention policies.
  • This product has been successful in improving compliance and even mitigating compliance violations, which further facilitated IT security.
  • I think there is room for improvement, as the user interface is slightly rough and difficult to adopt in the beginning. The software also hangs up at a few instances, which leads to some wasting of time and annoyance, but other than that, this software is good. The technical staff should work on the complexities for a better user experience.

Cons
ActivTrak
  • We had to really dig to figure out how to find the alarms for the potential mouse jiggler. Had I not really researched, I wouldn't have known that one of my employees was using it. The alerts should be more visable
  • The software is expensive, and I didn't like that I had to pay even more money to get screenshots of my employee who was using a mouse jiggler. While I really appreciate that I had the option, and it gave me the proof I needed, I think it should be included in the upfront cost.

  • Forcepoint technical support--specially for users who go with essential support--is challenging to get support on time. You need the ticket to be raised long beforehand to get support from TAC. However, in the case of enterprise support, its is not like this technical person will come on a priority basis.
  • However it comes with higher prices, especially for SMB, it is allowed to pay that amount for support only.

We are in agreement that the tool is very handy as a security companion. The system collects and retain relevant historical data to be queried when you desire e.g. in security reviews once a week.

We have been fairly happy with the product and how it has worked. We have looked at other vendors for url filter and such and have not found one that meets our needs or does what we have been doing with Websense. The product has been fairly stable and we have only had a few issues in the past. We have all seen that it was one of the highest leaders from the Gartner Group Magic Quadrant for Web Gateways.

ActivTrak is a great product that just keeps growing. Having used it for quite some time, we have been able to see ActivTrak grow and evolve as a product. Support Rating
ActivTrak
Support is always fast and the agents are ready at all times to help when an issue arises, if the tier 1 agent isn't able to provide a solution to the issue they're asked about they quickly escalate the issue to tier 2 or 3 to ensure that the appropriate support is given to the issue at hand to have it quickly solved. No issue we've had so far has taken more than two days to be solved.

Support from Forcepoint has been lacking. When calling in with a high priority issue we rarely are able to work with a technician immediately. The queue waits are very long and when you get through there are no support engineers available and we need to wait for a call back for hours it seems.

Implementation Rating
ActivTrak
There should be a way to automatically implement the system without giving users the opportunity to accept or deny the program on their computers.

Alternatives Considered
ActivTrak
We evaluated a few, the only one I remember was Controlio which was a bit easier to use, we just didn't like the name. We went with ActivTrak because another company used it and it seemed to work for them.

Return on Investment
ActivTrak
  • It has helped us improve workflows of our team.
  • It has helped us see that we needed to replace underperforming staff even after being coached and having their issues addressed.
  • It helped us know that we had a few ROCKSTARS burning out from overworking.
  • The screen capture has saved our butts when we had processed some things on other websites only to have them come back and say it didn't happen. We had visual proof.
  • While it was a bit nervous to implement because there is a negative about employees being monitored, it has provided us with coaching opportunities to help our team improve.

  • The exchange of financial documents with customers creates extreme risk as data loss could result in financial and reputation damage to the customer. The cost of deploying Forcepoint is fractions of pennies compared to the potential financial impact of data loss.
  • There is some administrative overhead associated as false positives are inevitable, requiring a manual review and a potential loss of productivity.
