Amazon Chime

Amazon Chime is a superior alternative to other free video conference/conference call programs. The call and video quality are great, and you can have multiple participants on both video and call. It's well suited for an organization that wants an affordable option for video and conference calls, but may not be appropriate for organizations with limited budgets or those who do very little conferencing.

GoToWebinar

GoToWebinar is perfect for businesses who have teachable content. Marketing firms, Real Estate, Education focused businesses, etc. would benefit from using GoToWebinar. Any type of work that people enjoy learning about. It would also be great for college professors to use for online classes. It isn't really suited for a personal use. I would only recommend it to those who work in a corporate setting or in education.

Pros

  • Connecting via the computer - this easy and so simple, just a couple of clicks.
  • Using multiple technologies - Amazon Chime also allows you to use a phone for dial-in audio. I enjoy this as my computer microphone and speakers are not the best sometimes.
  • Scheduling meetings - this is such an easy function for one time meetings or recurring.

  • Recording webinars is a streamlined process. Just hit the button and it'll record the AV, and at the end of the session you will be prompted to convert the raw file.
  • The backend dashboard is remarkably user-friendly, giving wide-ranging ability to modify, edit, and analyze upcoming and past webinars. Handy features like copying old webinars is a great plus.
  • The applet includes a section for questions, which easily allows muted attendees to make their voices heard appropriately, and at the discretion of the speaker.

Cons

  • Amazon Chime can be invasive as it pops up on your computer one minute or so before your meeting time.
  • Screen sharing - this isn't a real con as the screen sharing is great, it's at times just really small and hard to view when there are a handful of people on the call.
  • Log in - this can sometimes be a challenge but [it's] not too bad.

  • While recording is conveniently streamlined, it can sometimes be too much so. For example, new users may be confused as to where files are being recorded to on the harddrive. That the software saves both the raw and converted file to your HDD without you explicitly picking a folder location is a bit annoying.
  • The software has a harder than expected time reconnecting itself after a temporary drop in connectivity. Too often the affected user will need to close out the applet and rejoin, which can have a negative impact on recordings.
  • We have had trouble installing the software on Macs in the past, and have had to contact customer support. This only happened once, but was quite a hassle.

Our largest issue with GoTo have been the limitations on recording and using recordings to host a webinar, and the biggest of those is the ability to record. We have had most of our webinars recorded successfully, but when it failed to save, it failed in a big way. Their customer service team was there to help, but they were unable to truly fix the problem. There are, of course, other providers, but as we are still seeing where hosted webinars fit in our marketing strategy, cost is an important factor. Since our company already uses GoToMeeting, it makes more sense for us to stay with the entire suite of products, especially while we are testing the strategy as a whole.

I have used Zoom, Join.me, and GoToWebinar. As a whole, GoToWebinar worked the most consistently. It wasn't as quick to set up compared to Join.me, but at the end of the day, it worked easily and didn't have to require users to download the software to use it, like Join.me does.

The only time we have had to contact support, about installation on a Mac, the issue was resolved in short order

Alternatives Considered

I believe Amazon Chime is better, easier to use, and had better quality video/audio

GoToWebinar is definitely a far better product in terms of the number of attendees allowed, user-friendlies, security options and professionalism.

  • Our webinars have helped to drive traffic to our site, and we have acquired leads through their ongoing success.
  • GoTo's sync with Marketo has improved our reporting capabilities on the efficacy of webinars as a marketing device.
