No stage gate or portfolio reporting solution can overcome poor input data. The organization has to be willing to commit to consistent and rigorous updates of the information, or the reporting becomes useless. From what I've seen of competitive systems, Bubble Innovator is the easiest to use in this regard, so the excuse of not having good data because it's painful to upload or cumbersome to retrieve goes away. And the ease with which you can produce customized reports allows you to immediately find the gaps and weak points in your data, and take action to address them. That's not to say that every report and function in Bubble Innovator is perfect. But the close collaboration and responsiveness of the Bubble Innovation team has made it relatively easy to triage, prioritize, and implement improvements along the way.

Quickbase

Quick Base excels as a "single source of truth" for transactional business information. In any case where you need to track and update records of things (customers, projects, vehicles, prospects, opportunities, inspections, deliveries, etc.) and need a single source of truth with real-time information about what is happening with those records, Quick Base is a tool you should seriously consider.

  • Bubble Innovator is a tremendous visualization tool. The entire organization can quickly see where projects are in the stage-gate process.
  • Bubble Innovator became a key part of our strategic process for new product revenue projections. Utilizing Bubble Innovator as a portfolio management tool allows us to quickly output new product revenue projections for our strategic planning process.
  • Bubble Innovator is highly flexible. We are able to adapt it to our particular needs at different sites. This adaptability also allows us to utilize information to support other business processes.

  • Development of custom functionality, and redefining 'standard' options for the software. As Bubble grows and their customer base increases there will be opportunity for this, at present development projects can be slow and expensive. However the standard software options are excellent, but as processes evolve within organisations the flexibility to evolve the software could be made simpler.

  • Having more native integrations would be nice. Currently we are working with a partner of Quick Base to hook our Outlook program into it. It would be great to not have to have a third party link.
  • Sometimes the Tables can move slow the more information you use to create forms that you want.
  • The fact that it can't read my mind yet!

The user interface is highly visual and simple. Literally within 10-15 minutes of my introduction to the software, I was up and running. Of course, deeper capabilities become apparent after additional use, but the basic functionality is very simple to grasp. Where there are consistent challenges reported by multiple users, the Bubble Innovation team is quick to connect and put plans in place to address the challenges.

Once we did get Quick Base configured and customized it was reliably available when we needed it. We may have had one or two occasions when the product was inaccessible but those were few. The greatest challenge with its availability was its difficulty with integrating with our systems.

The help and documentation are top notch and available 24/7. The community also provides an additional layer of assistance and creativity in problem solving. For bugs and support the QuickBase team themselves are second to none. Immediate response with a case number and personalized support. They do not quit until they've solved your issue - even if your issue is that you're confused about how something works and misinterpreted or couldn't find the documentation. They'll helpfully and knowledgeably walk you through any problem from the syntax of a difficult formula to enterprise level governance and data management issues.

I was not directly involved with the initial account implementation, only a bystander. For the app I directly implemented for my department only, I wish I had know to create an app diagram first. I don't remember if that was suggested. I think that would be a great help tip tool when a new app is created, to have a page with a check list of what is needed or how to get started. If you are a regular app builder, then you can bypass it or have the ability to turn it off in the app settings.

We found Innovator provided all the functionality we required in a lightweight solution that was easy to configure to our processes, provided benefits to almost all those who accessed it with little or no training. Other systems may offer more depth of functionality but this makes them more cumbersome to use and requires more training of users. Innovator also offers a more transparent cost structure - you can immediately see what it will cost as all the functionality is automatically available within the price

Quickbase

While Salesforce has a much larger market share, I prefer Quick Base when it comes to custom app development. Even with Lighting, many of Salesforce's back-end tools needed to customize forms and processes are not actually low-code and require a pretty good understanding of Ajax and other coding languages. Salesforce is also more expensive per user than Quick Base for comparable plan levels.Where Salesforce shines over Quick Base is that you can start with an "out of the box" solution like their Salescloud CRM that will work on day 1 and then tweak from there.

It has evolved really well with our company, but there is a hard limit to the table size that has begun to affect us and not let us grow. The table size limit is set at 500 MB and we have had to jump through quite a few hoops to be able to get by.
