GoodData

GoodData is appropriate for any organizations struggling with bridging gaps between multiple disparate data sources. Using GoodData provides those organizations all the tools necessary to build value added insights for both internal and external customers. It would be less appropriate for those wanting to build highly customizable reports features as there's not a lot of freedom in design.

Pros

  • We helped a technology client of ours evaluate and implement GoodData. Our client was spending several hours each week exporting data from Salesforce and/or manually inputting Salesforce data into spreadsheets to track historical pipeline by region, product and opportunity stage. Our client was also trying to analyze sales stage velocity to understand what the best practice stage duration was for closed won opportunities. Our client also wanted to understand sales rep behavior.
  • GoodData allows our client to track changes in pipeline with detailed graphs and charts. You can analyze across dimensions, including regions, products and stages. You can set indicators, such as sales management targets, to measure performance. You can correlate sales rep behavior (ex. activities) to rep performance (ex. closed-won opps).
  • Integration to Salesforce data was very simple, although it does require a Salesforce user license.

  • Excellent single-stack BI solution, allowing great flexibility for data-modelling within the Sisense platform itself, with no need to perform the data modelling on a separate platform. The data modelling is implemented using standard SQL which makes anyone familiar with SQL already able to use the system.
  • Virtually unlimited customization options using Java Script, allowing you to modify and enhance existing functionality.
  • Great support from the both customer support and the user community.

Cons

  • I would like to have tools for automated project backups and restores, user provisioning. Presently this can be achieved through API's, but would prefer to have a specific and dedicated GoodData tool for this.
  • The pricing might not be very attractive if you happen to be a small scale business and plan to venture out in the area of Data Monetization.
  • The process of making reports and conducting inquiries is difficult. It requires to write a little bit of code. So if you are not using ETL (Extract Transform Load), then probably you don't need such a technical product.

  • The development and maintenance of complex and generic analytic cubes could be improved.
  • Export of data and visualisations to pdf and csv is possible. However the functionality is basic and limited.
  • No time format/datatype available. This requires JavaScript code to make it work.
  • JavaScript add-ons for bucket analysis and Gantt charts are limited and not supported.
  • Very limited trellis functionality
  • Cube field names cannot be changed without impacting the dashboards. Impact analysis is not available in standard software package.
  • Cannot rebuild cubes without making cube inaccessible during rebuild period.

I think the business and myself as a user has come to rely on SiSense as a dashboarding and quick ad-hoc reporting tool. I am hoping to integrate SiSense dashboards into more parts of the business in the future. We have reduced our report turn-around time for the most part from hours/days to minutes and in some cases almost the speed of thought. Reports are also easier on the eye and more easily distributed.I would also like to say that the support and professionalism from the SiSense team has been excellent.

Usability

Each graph/report is defined on the dashboard, which makes it easier to understand what you're analyzing. Another simple example - we changed the standard metric of Region by User to our Region by Account in less than 10 minutes

There are very few situations when there is unexpected downtime. Mostly during development, new dashboard implementation and during upgrades. other then that there were very few crashes.

SiSense is usually performing better then other solutions even if going for complex reports/dashboards(of course within reasonable frames). I haven't noticed any bad influence on other systems, usually if something happens it stays within SiSense.

This team is one of the few companies where I can literally Skype them for help and they respond immediately. Most don't realize how rare that actually is in the industry. Expanding their presence to the eastern time zone of the United States has made them more accessible as a result

Easy and free training that allowed us quickly understand basics in SiSense and start using them. More advanced features requires some browsing through SiSense forums, but there is always support to help, and SiSense support is one of the best whith which I worked so far.

Everyone uses GoodData on my team and in our company as we support our customers to use it as well

We have 1 Admin and 10 consumers. The reports are viewable by the business on plasma screens. Of those 10 consumers, 2-3 people would look at the reports on a daily basis.

Alternatives Considered

Power BI happens to be very basic and customization is limited at best. Fine for basic dashboards but not particularly good if you need to get more complex data insights. GoodData gives you the functionality of customized dashboards and is also very scalable. The price might be an issue but in the long run as the firm grows and you end up saving significantly on investing in GoodData. GoodData requires less maintenance as well since it can handle large quantities of data where as basic BI tools like PowerBI might end up crashing or might not perform efficiently when dataset size increases. The Power BI platform also doesn't provide that amount of integrations with data sources as GoodData. Hence we chose GoodData over PowerBI

  • Sisense can be fully embedded into our product.
  • Ease at which the provided widgets can be customized.
  • Data governance controls the chance of two dashboards giving conflicting results.
  • Separation of tools hides the complexity of the data connections and modeling from the end user.

Return on Investment

  • We gained better insight into our lead nurturing programs with much less effort. The data is presented in a clean and simple way that allows us to quickly view our main data points that drive business decisions.
  • Not only did it increase our employee efficiency, but it allowed us to provide better customer service to our clients. Having readily available data allowed us to pull reports for our clients within minutes.

  • Report development time is reduced from 2~3 days to 2~3 hours.
  • Report querying time is improved from 0.5~10 mins to 2~30 seconds.
  • A 2-staff team delivers 10 times the BI output that we did on the old system.
  • We were able to deliver BI and data analysis for all business functions instead of a very limited group of users
