Overall Satisfaction with GoodData

We use GoodData to provide business intelligence that's embedded within our platform. We use their end-to-end solution to connect our databases with their toool.
GoodData makes our data useful. We can quickly maneuver between the various data points, provide visualizations that summarize the data and extracts to get more granular.

Pros

  • Seamlessly incorporate a wide variety of tools in a way that doesn't clutter user experience
  • Provides tremendous knowledge and support on various use cases
  • Every offering and update is intentional - they're not a software company that makes changes on a whim

Cons

  • The organization of attributes/facts/metrics is lacking
  • Users share saved Insights and the management of those items. Its not intuitive or easy to find Insights unless they were the last ones you worked on
  • When viewing the data model, the interface isn't friendly to research. There should be a better way to view connections without endless scrolling
  • For larger extracts, we have to build other options internally at cost. We've explored options with GoodData on expanding number of fields on extracts or expanding overall size of data, and we can't even pay for the functionality. It's not available.
  • Using GoodData Platform, we use have GoodData host the scripts and backups. Its nice to have all cost in once place
  • Because GoodData hosts all the tools, we have found some items are out of our control (connector updates for example). When something goes wrong, we're at the mercy of GoodData.
The platform compares favorably to other tools, such as PowerBI and Tableau. For me, it provides most solutions our company needs.
It took 3 months to implemented, but around a year to fully develop use cases. Most of those problems were on our side. We're a long-standing clients (~8 years), but a lot of things are largely unchanged since implementation.
We appreciate the front-end tools being user-friendly. When demoing for our clients, we can quickly maneuver and perform updates in real-time. It's a powerful component that is the large selling point for the platform.
GoodData provides the largest amount of OOB features that meet our end-user needs. It means a lot that we don't need to perform development on our own. At some point, it may make sense to take items in house, but its hte best current fit.

Integrating GoodData

No direct feedback.
  • We integrate GoodData's Agile Data Warehouse
It's always hard to train on because of how unique it is. But its something that can be learned relatively quickly.
  • Ideally, GoodData decides to provide authentication services in the future.
Not anymore
  • File import/export
  • ETL tools
Take the time to fully document needs and expectations prior to kickoff project.

Using GoodData

20 - We have team members that include Product members, data engineers, data scientists, software implementation and customer support. It's used to analyze specific customers, our product base and to provide solutions for clients that otherwise have to be development into our SaaS product. We also have 1000 external users from our various clients.
20 - The members range from customer support members who only know enough to answer surface level requests, all the way to data engineers who work on various other products.
  • Executive level summaries
  • Transactional queues to guide the users work stream
  • Giving users an embeddable BI tool to get insights into their data
  • The ability to grant users self-service capabilities without additional licensing costs
  • Provide first-class insights into clients data
  • Replace data grids on our SaaS site with GoodData tables
  • Further embedding visualizations throughout our site
  • enable AI tools to expedite requests and learning curves
  • Continue pushing self-service analytics to our customers
We just recently renewed and are very satisfied with the new Cloud product

Evaluating GoodData and Competitors

Yes - We replaced PowerBI for our largest product. We have used GoodData on other products for the last decade and felt it was the better offering for our market type.
  • Cloud Solutions
  • Scalability
  • Ease of Use
We have recently consolidated our platforms and customers are extremely happy with how easy it is to use. From an administration perspective, it makes my job a lot easier.
I would look to vet data warehouse solutions outside of GoodData to streamline other processes that aren't directly related to GoodData product. We're waiting to review the new Analytics Lake tool more indepth.

GoodData Implementation

Implementations are hard and we had limited technical resources. We relied too heavily on GD care team. When we found technical gaps, they weren't simple to overcome.
  • Implemented in-house
  • Third-party professional services
Change management was a small part of the implementation and was well-handled - There were too many unknowns during our implementation that were backlogged because of the time crunch.
  • GD no longer authenticates
  • To integrate with their data warehouse, we have to use their older platform
  • The python tooling is more widely used than expected.

GoodData Training

Yes - it's a very friendly tool for BI beginners. The online documentation is as good and clear as any other software I've used. You don't have to rely on tech forums - GD tells you what you need to know.

Configuring GoodData

The new GoodData Cloud is limited on settings within the site itself. I'm not sure why some tools are python based when the tools are so straightforward.
Do it once, do it right. Configure dashboards at parent workspace level, but permissions at child workspace level. Allows for greater configurability from workspace to workspace.
Some - we have done small customizations to the interface - Our graphics designer provided an optimal solution within a day. The documentation is simple and straightforward.
No - we have not done any custom code

GoodData Support

The team at GoodData always responds much quicker to requests and concerns that I would even ask. The Slack channel is active. The support emails product content same day. Great group.
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
No escalation required
Immediate help available
Support understands my problem
Quick Initial Response
Support doesn't seem to care
No. The product on our side mostly runs without frequent interactions and issues from the GoodData side. We've only had one or two critical issues in a decade of service.
Yes - Yes - the team is always great. Even if they point out my "bug" is my own user error.
We were going through an issue on a legacy product that we were going to soon move off of. The team went above and beyond answering our concerns, even though we were already migrating off to the latest product.

Using GoodData

ProsCons
Like to use
Relatively simple
Easy to use
Technical support not required
Well integrated
Consistent
Quick to learn
Convenient
Feel confident using
Familiar
None
  • User and Group management is very streamlined
  • The parent/child workspace propagation makes updating my hundreds of workspaces a breeze
  • There is not a setting in GoodData Cloud that can't be found within 30 seconds. Very good design
  • GoodData hosts our data warehouse but there is zero integration between the two. We have to manage the connection ourself.
  • The early look features are added, but its not clear what bugs there are or when they will be graduated to fully supported

GoodData Reliability

We now have hundreds of customers on multiple product lines. It's very flexible and we can troubleshoot ourselves.
We rarely run into concerns. There are only minor hiccups, mostly caused by our own tight deadlines.
I'm generally impressed with how fast it reflects so much data.

Relationship with GoodData

In the end, it's a business deal. Some of the team members cut straight to what we need. If we require something from the Product side, we don't expect any concrete details from Sales.
In the end, the product and cost compare favorably to others.
No change - transitions have been easier with them all.
Generally, we could scale and add additional workspaces at negotiated costs.
Be educated on what all you and your team require from the product.

Upgrading GoodData

  • The AI tool is generated interest but isn't customer ready
  • The Dashboard Tabs will be a big help as we continue migration from PowerBI
  • The Analytics Catalog will be great once the bugs are resolved
  • I want to see a more robust Ai tool
  • Resolve bugs on early access tools
  • Provide more visualizations, including geo maps
