Google Voice

Google Voice is well suited for a team that would like its employees to text/call one number. When an employee confirms for a shift, or is running late, everyone on my team sees it, but only one person needs to respond. It's very helpful to have that visibility, especially so that everyone on the team knows that texts/calls are being responded to. It can be an issue however when an employee wants to speak to someone directly on the team, and tries calling that number only to get someone else picking up. But usually, we just direct the employee to that specific person's direct phone line, as the Google Voice number is not the phone number associated with the phone.

Skype for Business

You may be wondering why to choose Skype for Business and pay for Skype when there is also a free option. The free Skype doesn't come with features that would be helpful to a big group as it only has the capability to connect less than 25 participants in any one meeting. If you have a large group of employees that need to meet, Skype for Business is definitely worth the upgrade.

  • I think there is room to improve with regards to call forwarding.
  • I wish there were a concise way to know if the call was to your Google Voice number or your personal number before answering the call.

  • Having multiple Chats/Conversations open, make Skype unresponsive from time to time. Sometimes it has tendencies of crashing even on high-end machines.
  • Grouping chats - Works well, however, there is no option to group appointed meeting conversation with other regular conversations/chats that were not initiated by calendar event.
  • Should be able to have some themes to choose from. Microsoft is going for a dark theme in Windows insider program. Personal Skype already has it why wouldn't Skype for business have it? It is pleasant to the eye, at least in my opinion and for my eyes.

The software is simple to install and configure. It is rather simple to explain for correct use. It is possible to profile users for the different functions offered. It is integrated quite completely with Outlook and with Active Directory security. It performs all communication functions well with one or more interlocutors and the possibility of granting control of your computer is convenient.

I haven't had problems with dropped calls, bad reception, lost recordings - everything works the way it should. The iOS app is easy to use, and the process is easy to explain to other people. It's also the cheapest way I've found to call internationally - I've used it to interview people from London and Austraila.

Skype for Business is great for instant messaging, with some minor issues. It has an acceptable quality for audio and video conferencing. Its integration with Microsoft Office is a big plus.The one that is a real setback is the screen sharing during conferences, which can be really annoying to watch if it doesn't disconnect too often.

I give them a 6/10 because while they are well-intentioned and answer the phone if you have complex technical issues or questions they may not be able to help you. To be fair this may have just been my experience, but IMHO I think google should choose a new company for their tech support or start doing it themselves.

There are only ever minor bugs on Microsoft's Skype for Business. This makes it easy to troubleshoot for users and IT departments. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app provides a solution to most problems resulting from the application. The simplicity and ease of the tool makes it less probable for need of support.

Skpe for business is utilized company wide in regards to my company. Everyone not only uses it, but uses it often. It is an effective way of communicating. It also integrates very nicely with outlook and all conversation history is pushed to a folder within the outlook system. We also have it so that if someone misses a message, they are sent an email reminder saying that there is a message that went unread.

I use Google Voice personally and it works great with my Google account. At work, I have a RingCentral account and while it might have more features, I find it more cumbersome to use. The app isn't as polished. The voicemail transcription is pretty good, but not as smooth. Overall, RingCentral works fine, but I wouldn't choose it given the option.

Skype for Business

I have used Google Hangouts previously, and I believe that Skype is a better service. It is intertwined with the calendar. Also, when installing it as part of the Office 365 package, it is only a second install. I also like how it saves the messages within Outlook. Skype for Business also uses end to end encryption. This makes all business communication more secure than Google Hangouts
