Overall Satisfaction with Skype for Business (formerly Lync), now part of Microsoft Teams

In my role, Skype has been useful for team meetings and gatherings. During the work from home part of my employment, it was a necessary tool, as my role included skype calls in order to help internal employees with general tech issues.

Pros

  • Easy Communication.
  • Simple to use when set up.
  • Good user interface.
  • Good integration with other Microsoft product like Outlook.

Cons

  • Connection issues can be hard to diagnose when they come up(as some knowledge of server information may be needed to reestablish as the connection troubleshooting options on the sky are not as user-friendly as the rest of the platform.
  • Some issues setting up camera/sound could use more info on troubleshooting options with playback sound, video, etc.
  • Statuses sometimes are unreliable and do not display correctly .
  • Not involved in purchase decisions.
  • Zoom
Skype performs better overall and is more reliable in low connectivity areas. Skype also has more options for making changes on the back end(Sound/notifications/invitations, etc) to customize the experience better. An area of improvement for Skype vs Zoom would be their mobile platform.

Yes

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Skype for Business, now part of Microsoft Teams again?

Yes

Skype is useful for collaborations across distances, including work from home, as well as a more convenient way to communicate with a large group of people. Skype is also useful to communicate with specific parties quickly, rather than relying on cellular service in areas where not as available. Skype is less useful if the team does not use computers , tablets, smartphones, etc in daily workflow as it would rarely be used.
