I am not a huge fan of the platform because our Medallia Project Team does all the work for us. They don't do a great job of communicating how things work and the limitations of the platform.

Qualaroo

Qualaroo is great for onsite surveys that need to capture additional information like UTM data and talk/interact with Google Analytics through events. The team at Qualaroo has also been great to work with as they navigated our corporation's security policies. They were also great at working with us to find a package that suited our needs within our budget

  • Integration with Salesforce: Medallia can be fully integrated with Salesforce or other CRM systems with all the data in both places and Account Managers/Sales, CSM's, Support, Onboarding, executives, etc., never have to leave SF and they have a Dashboard in SF tailored to their role. All data is available in real-time.
  • Closed loop: Great closed-loop where alerts are sent out to the right person in real time if there is a detractor or dissatisfied customer. This means you can contact the customer within 24 hours, which wows your customers and makes it easy to move to customers from a Detractor to a Promoter.
  • Actionable insights: Medallia has amazing dashboards, that give you the data you need along with text analytics to make changes based on your customer needs, pain points and trends. It gives you all the tools you need to take the right actions to improve you customer experience and the bottom-line.

  • Rapid roll-out of micro-surveys targeted to specific types of visitors (Qualaroo controls) and/or pages (via regular expressions) without having to use developer resources
  • Easy to brand (add a logo and change colors) to generally match or at least complement the look & feel of our site
  • With the exception of some hiccups we experienced early on with changes Qualaroo was making to the way regular expressions work for targeting "nudges" (micro-surveys), the platform has been very stable and reliable
  • Response notification and aggregate reporting (both online and via downloadable CSV files) are simple and intuitive
  • Easy to "clone" an existing nudge to rapidly modify and launch as a new micro-survey
  • We're able to pass session information directly into a Qualaroo submission from our site so that we can identify respondents without asking for an email address or other unique identifier (so long as they're logged in as returning/repeat site users).

  • Unable to export personal information into Excel causing a lot of manual work
  • Difficult to integrate with other systems due to the need for unique account identifiers
  • Missing some functionality. Need more pre-defined template responses. Would be nice to copy email addresses from the response tab without it opening up the response. Need different views of some reports
  • Search bars are finicky sometimes. Example- It's difficult to find users in the response subscribe section

Qualaroo's feature set is narrow, keeping the admin interface relatively simple to navigate. Qualaroo recently improved the way users can write and test regular expressions, improving the usability of that feature significantly (this was likely motivated by a high volume of support inquiries to Qualaroo on this feature). The one area where Qualaroo could significantly improve usability is on the ability to design nudges with multiple questions. Adding a drag-and-drop feature to organize questions (even if this doesn't actually affect the branch logic that sequences the questions themselves) would be a big improvement.

I've never experienced an outage where Qualaroo was unavailable. I don't think I've even gotten notices for scheduled down/maintenance time. The platform is always available.

Our developers complain that Qualaroo is just one of several similar site add-ons that slow down our site performance. I'm skeptical that Qualaroo has any measurable impact on our page load times, but don't have any hard evidence either way. The Qualaroo admin interface and reporting mechanisms are all quick and reliable.

Qualaroo is quite responsive, but the representative my team spoke to seemed to have difficulty understanding the technical aspects of the product. They were unable to provide a clear answer about how to compute the response rate. However, they did extend our free trial as well as allow us to see beyond the first 50 responses (you are limited on the free plan).

If you have a very large business with multiple outlets, Medallia is a reasonable choice to make because of the major scalability and the vast amounts of data you can collect. If you are a small, one-off, or independent business, it can be very costly and not all of the tools are necessary for you. I do not like the user experience or report visualizations as much as the reports on Revinate and TrustYou. Revinate is my favorite of the three so far.

I've used other survey tools in the past, like SurveyMonkey, but the closest tool that I've used in the same way is the poll functionality in Hotjar. I find that both are good tools to survey visitors, but Qualaroo provides further advanced features and ease of analysis than relying on Hotjar alone for surveying.

Qualaroo's simplicity has its down sides when it comes to scaling. Managing multiple nudges across multiple domains, at least in the Pro edition, is challenging. The active nudges all appear as a single list on the admin home page, automatically grouped by domains. Archived nudges are on a separate tab. It would be helpful to have a folder system to organize nudges.Also, once you have multiple active nudges that are targeted to different sections of your site using regular expressions, it's difficult to keep track of what is appearing where. It's also difficult, if not impossible, to figure out where you may have competing nudges.And there's no ability to assign reporting or configuration access to other members of your team. The Pro edition has a single login, which must be shared if you have multiple staff who want to use Qualaroo.
