OnPay vs. Rippling Payroll

OnPay works for me as a small business owner. It streamlines HR, Payroll and Employment Tax Filings - and it can be helpful in exploring benefit options with integrated partners. We run payroll for both of our companies through OnPay and haven't had any issues. The employees find it easy to use on their end, as well. The OnPay representatives are extremely proactive and communicate updates/changes in a very timely manner. If you have a substantial number of employees, it may be more efficient to look elsewhere due to cost.

Rippling is an excellent product that has streamlined our payroll and leave management processes. The interface is good, and it’s very convenient to manage everything in one place. While the initial setup was somewhat lengthy, and the mobile experience can sometimes be a bit slow, overall, it has been a reliable and effective solution for our needs.

• Communication - From my first call I was so impressed at the level of care and compassion OnPay expressed. I was assigned specific employees who were available in the sign up process to walk me through each step and to answer all my questions. I know some of my questions were probably "stupid" but OnPay never minded answering them and I was always treated with respect.
• On Boarding - The nightmare I had experienced with a competitor became a dream with OnPay. They said if I would authorize them to sign onto my account they would take care of the sign up process. And they did!!! They also did it correctly. All of the numbers and information was error free. The only information I was required was input was direct deposit bank information.
• Resolving an Issue - I have only had one issue that needed to be resolved. The person I talked to had to check with another person for an answer but she stayed on the line with me to make sure the problem was resolved. Then I received a follow up email outlining exactly what action they had taken.
• Ease of using the website - I can find what I am looking for! I like the verification code. And every time I sign on to my account the red heart by our company name makes me smile.

• Payroll alert is provided to my entire company, which spans more than 10,000 employees with different time zones. The app never fails to alert the team members when it’s payday in any country.
• Automation, this function has everything you need in one area. Weather it be requesting time off, looking at your W2 or even checking stocks in your 401k portfolio. This app makes it easy to search for everything in one place.
• Communication: Several different members of the association are able to communicate effectively and timely within the app. Rippling is a worldwide country that is difficult to maintain, but it does it easily.

• You can add additional additions or benefit items such as a car allowance. The process required me to contact a representative as that wasn't as easy to navigate.
• The process for handling additional withholdings for pre-payed taxes required support to ensure the calculations were accurate.
• Process for on-boarding is a little tricky if you don't start the process from the point of hire. You can add various things easily but it reflects differently in terms of completion of an Employee file.

• Setting up Roles and Permissions is complex and tends to be a headache for our HR team. Defining the correct access levels often takes more time than it should.
• The interface can feel a little overwhelming at times due to the sheer number of modules and functionalities.
• While support is helpful, the initial response speed could be improved in non-urgent situations.

We have used OnPay for a few years now and we do continue to renew our annual use of OnPay. We are only a small organization and although OnPay provides a lot of additional services that larger organizations might ind useful, OnPay still meets our limited requirements of running bi-weekly payroll and submitting our quarterly state and federal tax documents, and at a price that we still find affordable.

I can say the easy answer that everyone is already used to it, especially of how integrated it is into our system, but I know for sure the best answer is because of how much easier it is to use compared to other systems when it comes to being such an all in one tool

For a one geography business in a larger metro area not planning to expand tax geographies or do anything other than the same-ol, same-ol, then I think OnPay is great. Their biggest issue is tax support responsiveness - it's simply unacceptable yet they seem to not be concerned about it at all.

I think that if I didn't have the human rep walking me through everything, I would have trouble navigating the platform. There are a lot of menu options, and some of the options are buried, so it was a little confusing and difficult to find where certain things are. But again, because of the human reps, you're able to understand how to use it better.

In the flve plus years I've been using Rippling, I do not believer there was ever an instance where the systems was not available. It's a terrific platform that has made my life easier.

Yes, the pages load quickly and running payroll has been very easy. Reporting could be improved, though. I tried to pull a report on total payroll for a particular year and had a hard time finding what I need.

As mentioned previously, I appreciate the Chat feature and have used it several times. I've also used the help database and found it wonderful. And I've had many email support interactions. Every time I've interacted with many individuals from the support team including...(who has helped me a number of times). The interactions have been professional and courteous and extremely helpful. Often they're able to resolve my problems and questions very quickly. OnPay has provided great support to our team here at Strike Visuals.

My only pain point is that you have to go through the AI chatbot before you can get to a human. And most often that's okay and honestly quicker, but if you have a time sensitive issue or need a human ASAP it can be stressful. I will say, everything is very quick from a response timeline.

I gave it a 10 rating because I was pleased with the services and training provided. When my team and I got the word we'd be using Rippling, it was an easy transition because of your professionalism in this space. I loved the time and the effort and care we received when trying to navigate this site, We had a lot of questions in the beginning, but all of the questions were answered and in a timely, effective manner.

Easy to implement and easy to convert any other payroll reports to the OnPay system when making the switch

The assigned team was responsive. Daily Rippling would tell me that I had tasks open. This was repetitive until resolved. So even though Rippling itself remined you upon opening the system, there was the daily email reminder. That was annoying. But Rippling personnel helped us resolve all tax issues, and walk us through policy setup

OnPay is tremendously less expensive and technically superior to Quickbooks in my opinion. OnPay is less expensive and offered the ease of managing a restaurant payroll that was better in my opinion than When I Work. My experience when evaluating all of the payroll products that I felt the company could afford was that OnPay had a superior staff of professionals who knew their product and could explain how to use it most clearly.

G&A/Worksight was clunky and poorly designed, not integrated features, more like they were "snapped in" to aging code and mismatched user interfaces and often did not work well (training modules, time off calendar, payroll was third party, just very clunky to use). Our HR department was constantly required to help managers administrate and users as well. Rippling is used as our HR/employee management, payroll, training and benefits management. This replacement product has solved a lot of our useability issues that we had with our previous platform and freed up/automated a lot of the accounting and HR assistance needed previously, which as an aging, clunky platform that just had a LOT of bugs, and not a lot of features or flexibility.

OnPay works.

We only have 12 employees, but the system would work for very large organizations because of the approval processes set up within it.

• Cut our payroll fees by more than half of what was being paid to CPA firm
• Save time in dealing with CPA firm for payroll returns and filing
• Could easily generate various payroll related reports..even from the past....this was not possible with the CPA firm previously used
