Overall Satisfaction with OnPay

We use OnPay for our Payroll needs. While we are a small company, PayRoll and the associated tax payment requirements all take up valuable time and bandwidth. These tax requirements seem to be in a constant state of flux. For a small fee, it is well worth having a company like OnPay take care of these all-too-important-requirements, freeing up our time to spend elsewhere on more enjoyable aspects of building our business.

Pros

  • OnPay responds promptly and informatively to questions we have had over our taxation requirements.
  • OnPay provides a simple-to-use interface for our bi-monthly PayRoll
  • OnPay has responded informatively over letters received from the IRS and has given us piece of mind that the regular tax payments, both state ad federal, are being handled correctly by the OnPay team.

Cons

  • It would be god for OnPay to provide regular email updates that state and federal tax payments have been made.
  • While it is possible to find out, by scrolling through various links on the website, whether OnPay has made critical state and federal tax payments, it is often had to find where to look if you are not full conversant with the tax code language.
  • It would be good to be able to execute payroll in advance, in cases where the person doing payroll goes on vacation for longer than a couple weeks. Currently, OnPay only allows you to execute payroll for a current period, not a future period.
  • Time saving is definitely a huge benefit.
  • Knowing that personal and company taxes are being accurately calculated and sent to the IRS provides piece-of-mind.
  • OnPay makes it easy to update our Illinois SUI (State Unemployment Insurance) Contribution Rate when it changes year-by-year.
OnPay is very quick and somewhat thorough on providing support to questions we have had, particularly in respond to letters received from the IRS where we needed clarification (and piece-of-mind) that we were paying the proper state and federal taxes and that they were being calculated correctly. However, some of this feedback would not have been needed if OnPay were to send a summary email, perhaps quarterly, summarizing the payments that have been made. While it is possible to find out this information of the website, it is sometimes hard to navigate to the correct location if you are not conversant with tax language and know exactly what you are looking for and where to find it.
OnPay is certainly easy to use for basic payroll services (we don't use it for Human Resources or any of its other services, just basic payroll services). The dashboard is clean and easy to use. It would be good to have the option to be able to automate running payroll or to be able to execute a future payroll run at a particular date (currently you can only run the "current" period, not future periods).
OnPay is the first payroll service we have used, but there has been no reason to justify us looking for a comparable product to make the switch. OnPay has the services we need. It has additional services that we do not currently need, but perhaps in the future if our company grows it might be useful, but for now it has the basic payroll and tax document services we require and are happy enough to not feel the need to look elsewhere.

Do you think OnPay delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with OnPay's feature set?

Yes

Did OnPay live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of OnPay go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy OnPay again?

Yes

OnPay charges a reasonably low fee for the payroll services and quarterly tax payments it makes. It provides an easy-to-use interface to carry our regular payroll activities and to let you know specific deadlines in order for payroll to be done in a timely manner. It would be good to be able to setup payroll on an ongoing basis (not having to do it manually every two weeks). Also, if we need to execute a payroll early, it would be good for the money to stay in our account until it is time to pay the employee, and not take it out of our account the minute we run payroll.

Using OnPay

1 - We are a small company, so staff cover many aspects of business functions and perform them daily. One staff member in our organization uses OnPay. It is just simpler this way. Because we only use OnPay for bi-weekly payroll services, and of course the automatic tax document filing that OnPay does, it is easier for one person to maintain their famiiarity with the product and to complete the tasks quickly.
1 - We have one person in-house that uses OnPay on an on-going basis. That person has been with the company for four or five years now and has been using OnPay for payroll services for about four of those years. They are well organized and detail oriented which helps with a constant recurring use of OnPay for the company's bi-weekly payroll needs.
  • Bi-weekly payroll services
  • Updating our current tax status (e.g., SUI Contribution Rate)
  • Submitting the correct taxation to federal and state
  • Peace of mind that we are meeting our bi-weekly taxation obligations
  • Peace of mind that OnPay is filing our required quarterly federal and state taxation documents.
  • The ability of have OnPay submit quartly federal tax filing needs.
  • The ability of have OnPay submit quartly state tax filing needs.
  • Provide assistance with Workers Compensation requirements should we start to take on employees
  • Group Benefits, should we start to take on employees
  • HR tools, should we expand and start to take on employees
We have used OnPay for a few years now and we do continue to renew our annual use of OnPay. We are only a small organization and although OnPay provides a lot of additional services that larger organizations might ind useful, OnPay still meets our limited requirements of running bi-weekly payroll and submitting our quarterly state and federal tax documents, and at a price that we still find affordable.
