Overall Satisfaction with Rippling
We use Rippling as our payroll provider. I run salary, hourly, contactors and one-time personnel payments through Rippling. We have between 10-15 employees per year, with 2-5 contractors. Rippling is able to track our employees benefits and give them and management a view at any time. We can add benefits which we are in the process of doing now such as 403(b) plan and health benefits.
Pros
- Provides not just pay, but reimbursements, and other non-standard deductions.
- Keeps track of vacation, PTO, maternity leave, etc.
- Provides a payroll comparison with prior payroll per employee to see the differences, thus noting payroll changes that may be troubling.
Cons
- Rippling could provide some help in determining exemption of employees in states other than our state of incorporation.
- Assistance in setting up the payroll accounts in states. They leave this to the organization saying just "provide us with the account numbers."
- Provide editable forms that can become the company's standards for things like onboarding, employment offer, some policies acceptances and things like that.
- Providing employees clear access to pay and benefits helps keep them.
- Rippling combined two other systems that we used, so we saved time and money.
- Once things are setup and policies in place it works like a charm.
Rippling is easier to use and the payroll comparison is a real benefit. Paychex did not have a system for tracking PTO, annual leave, etc., but Rippling handles it well.

Evaluating Rippling and Competitors
Yes - Paychex. They did not have a timeclock or PTO system in place. Secondly, it was difficult to produce reports to show employees, or use for worker's comp audits.
- Ease of Use
- Other
The PTO and timeclock systems were the most important. Secondly, the price was less than the paychex system for a far better product.
Wouldn't change it.
Rippling Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Yes - 1. contract sign
2. review needed requirements for initial setup.
3. Set up needed policies, such as PTO, Part-time versus Full time, etc.
4. Input all employees for the current year with the appropriate data.
5. Gather data from prior payroll system. Review data.
6. Upload data to Rippling
7. Review data in depth to ensure correct.
8. Work through any issues. (we had a tax issue that came from the prior payroll system that needed resolution and correction)

Change management was a small part of the implementation and was well-handled - Transfers of system data may include erroneous data legally paid and therefore causing incorrect taxes in the following quarter.
- Prior payroll data included improper tax paid
- vacation time for an employee was difficult to calculate
- Policies had not been written so these had to be defined for Rippling to implement. Those would be hours of vacation at levels of service, PTO for parttime/fulltime, etc.

Rippling Support

Quick Resolution Good followup Knowledgeable team Problems get solved No escalation required Immediate help available Support understands my problem Support cares about my success Quick Initial Response | None |
No. Basic support is more than enough.
The timeclock indicated an hourly employee had overtime yet the week barely had 30 hours. By asking Rippling support it was narrowed down to a mismatch on the work week and the stated first day of the week. This took about 10 minutes to find and resolve. Excellent use of AI chat.

- Time clock changes
- PTO calculations are easay
- Payroll process is easy and saves when needed
- Reports are a bit difficult because I don't know the appropriate field selections yet. But changes are quick so it is easy to get a new report and get the one desired.
- Initial set up of policies requires you to add either an employee or class of employees. Knowing when to use employee only, or a class was not explained well.
Yes - For an employee it works extremely well. I am able to clock in/out. Change missed times. Ask for PTO. See paystub. I like it more than using a computer.
