Forma is building photorealistic avatars, and its first application is to provide digital tryons for e-commerce shopping. The vendor says consumers are overwhelmed by choice in the digital world, which manifests in high customer acquisition costs, 'I look nothing like your model' complaints, short session times, abandoned carts, and product returns. As the vendor sees it, efforts such as shooting more diverse models, shopper surveys, or 3D scanning customers and clothing have had varying levels of success. But Forma aims to put the customer directly at the center of the shopping experience with a single photo, with the goal of grabbing their attention and helping them build confidence before buying. The vendor believes that customers will soon demand to try an item before buying online - just like they do offline!
Forma just launched on Shopify in February. So far the vendor reports seeing 5-10x engagement lift across 35 merchants, 1,000 SKUs, and 100k shopper page views. Onboarding is simple, according to the vendor: Forma can automatically process most products - no engineers, re-shooting models, Photoshop, green screens, or special hardware necessary.
The vendor's website offers videos of the user flow, 1min merchant onboarding, and examples of live products that use Forma.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why
We started a pilot with Forma on 4 items, based on the results have been adding more items every week. It's not on all of our products yet but we continue adding more. Forma works because its shoppers get comfortable with buying. Most have never been to our store, and for many it's the first time they have ever heard of Santo Domingo Swimwear. Now they can choose their model or see it on themself then decide to buy.
- Keep customers on my site for longer
- Easy to try and expand, they use my existing product photos
- Free unless you want a special design
- Good support
- Takes a couple days to add products. Would be better if it were instant.
- Only on Shopify. I told a friend who sells on Woo Commerce and it wouldn't work.
Very good for smaller stores, very easy to start and expand. Swimwear is a good use case, people want to know what they look like in swimwear. Also it works best on phones so it's good if customers shop on mobile. Not good if you are not on Shopify, it won't work. Also maybe not good for very high-end luxury brands, users who upload photos use their camera phones and not beautiful like models.
