What is Fulcrum?

Fulcrum is a field inspection management platform used to ensure safer, higher quality, and compliant outcomes for mobile teams. With Fulcrum, organizations can digitize data collection and inspection processes, manage inspection-related issues and tasks in one place, demonstrate compliance with regulations, and get insights and reports from teams in the field.

Fulcrum Capabilities

• Drag-and-drop form builder and customizable building blocks that support the creation of custom mobile forms with conditional skip logic, multiple data types, and rich media collection.

• Forms can be deployed to the field in real-time with changes synced automatically, and users can assign forms to field workers for completion.

• Native apps for iOS and Android allow users to scan barcodes, collect signatures, and automatically capture GPS location coordinates. In addition, they enable offline data collection with data stored on the device and automatically synced when the connection is restored.

• Reports can be generated and exported in multiple formats, including CSV, Excel, Google Earth, and PDF. Data can also be viewed on a map interface for quality checks and data analysis.

• The activity stream provides users with real-time insight into data collection activities, and all changes made to records are stored, creating a log of historical record versions over time.

We use Fulcrum to record information about vehicles and our product in the field to ensure we have clean and organized records of work completed and issues encountered. This has unlocked immense value for us. It allows managers to review work to maintain high quality. Using Fulcrum has also allowed for large amounts of field data to be gathered and quickly transferred from our field team to our engineering team when necessary.
Pros and Cons
  • Organize information and tie it back to particular job.
  • Easy to build and modify "apps".
  • Export information in easy to share format (pdf, .csv, zip, etc).
  • Advanced features are not extremely intuitive for less technical audience.
  • Must reassign records to a different user to discontinue an account.

We primarily use Fulcrum for field notes and field documentation. Fulcrum allows project managers in the office to see in near real-time what our field staff is recording which increases the speed and effectiveness we can respond to current field conditions. Additionally, Fulcrum allows for consistency between various field staff to ensure that the required information is recorded, which greatly reduces the time required to generate reports at the end of the project.

  • When exporting an app at the completion of a project file names are downloaded with what seem to be a random conglomeration of characters.

  • The load time between windows when using the Fulcrum website is a bit slow.
Likelihood to Recommend
Fulcrum is a great tool to ensure consistency and accuracy of field records while ensuring near real-time viewing capabilities between field and office staff. This real-time sharing is only available if both parties sync their devices which can be challenging at times if working in environments with poor cellular or wi-fi connections.

  • Instead of spending time trying to find out what, why, where, and when a picture was taken the guess work is removed as photos are georeferenced and can be annotated in the field.
