Overall Satisfaction with Adobe Illustrator CC

As a graphic designer, I use Adobe Illustrator CC on a literal daily basis. From logo design to social media post images to website wireframes, it is a required asset to create vector art and multiple artboard layouts for clients. While I also use other programs within the Creative Suite, Adobe Illustrator CC is indispensable and much preferred to other vector-based programs I've used in the past.

Pros

  • Vector art-based requests (e.g. logos and illustrations)
  • Multi-page artboard publications
  • Website wireframes

Cons

  • Integration with other Creative Suite programs - specifically the tool options and layout
  • Allow for increased customization of workspace options
  • Larger artboard area (a several-page wireframe layout is difficult to squeeze into the allowable artboard area)
  • Vector editability
  • Birds-eye view of multi-art board projects (social carrousel images)
  • Live-trace feature
  • Straight to the point: I wouldn't be able to do what I do without it. Too many design needs require what Adobe Illustrator CC offers.
  • I could use InDesign, but my time spent on many projects would have to increase by 150% in order to complete said projects.
Simply stated, Adobe Illustrator CC just offers more. Not all projects require 'more', but when you need it, it is nice that you don't have to jump programs and start over on a project. Inkscape is simple to use, but so is Canva. Point being, just because a program has a great user interface and/or is free to the public, there is always give and take. If either CorelDraw or Inkscape were as robust, as trusted, or as reliable as Adobe Illustrator CC, then the Adobe CC would not be an industry standard.

Well suited: Single page, vector-based art. e.g. logo use cases, social media post images, etc. Although InDesign also has the ability to create vector-based art, Adobe Illustrator CC gives the user more control. Less appropriate: multi-page documents (e.g. reports, case studies, etc.), heavy photo-based needs (billboard, wall display) as the linked images bog the file down and make for a very large pdf when needing to share with clients.
