We are an auction house that sells historic and collectable philatelic and numismatic items. Avalara keeps track of sales tax rates and the taxability of different items which are subject to various forms of taxation in differing jurisdictions. Avalara takes the worry out of our sales and seller's use tax filings. Avalara also keeps track of where we have economic nexus and where we are approaching economic nexus. This helps us assure that we are compliant with our obligations.

Cross-Border Tax Compliance with Avalara
Yes, Avalara has assisted us in maintaining compliance with various states nexus rules and alerts us when we are approaching nexus in a jurisdiction. This takes away much of the time which was spent monitoring this and allows us to focus on our primary business. It saves us time and consequently money.
Avalara has allowed us to expand from a single product line into multiple products by providing us with timely and accurate information relating to the taxability of new products that we are selling through our auction process. many of the products in our new business are taxable at differing rates, if at all.
We already sell internationally - Cross border compliance is a rapidly changing area. Tariffs change almost weekly. Avalara's cross border product will enable us to keep track of the changes as they apply to our clientele. This will allow us to accurately bill our clients and reduce or eliminate returns when a product is delivered based upon unexpected tariffs.
We do not sell on these marketplaces.

The single most important factor in our decision to use the Avatax product was its ability to interact with a proprietary product that we use in our auction business. The integration was seamless. The API was established and easy to work with. We are satisfied with the product and its implementation.
We would not change anything. The product works well, and we do not have to worry about it.

I did not purchase premium support for Avalara because I rarely need support, and when I do, it is forthcoming quickly. Avalara has a team of experienced professionals who rapidly provide needed support for their product when it occasionally becomes necessary. It is relevant that most of the issues are user education matters, not Avalara problems.
When we had a cross-border issue, we called our tech rep. Even though we are not subscribed to the Avalara Cross Border solution, Avalara jumped in and assisted us immediately. This saved us significant sums in potential penalties. Avalara stood ready to assist us simply because we are a customer. We look forward to a lasting relationship with Avalara.
