Overall Satisfaction with Chartbeat

Chartbeat is used by nearly every property in my organization to track visits to various sites in real time. We use it for understanding search and social trends, track performance and compare against prior performance.

This is instrumental to our edit teams for timing on follow up assets and updates.
  • Real-time traffic analysis.
  • Segmentation by acquisition traffic and other demographics.
  • Visualization of data.
  • Understanding custom variables for custom channels.
  • Better understanding of URL vs. Canonical URL.
  • Finding a better caching balance for page meta data.
  • More people are now involved with understanding traffic and the importance of its timeliness.
  • Chartbeat helps our teams create timely, relevant updates.
Timing is everything in digital publishing. Chartbeat enables us to see the trends, see when we start declining in traffic from various channels to produce social updates or additional search signals to boost our volume in those respective channels.

Additionally, we can see prior week's trends. This is particularly important for comparing week-over-week tentpole event coverage.
It's fairly intuitive. Most people can see the numbers, the color and other visualizations and quickly understand what's going on. Some of the drill-down stuff can be daunting for analytics novices.

The setup requires a bit of technical know-how. Some features, like basing the title on the canonical are not always accurate.
Watching for dips in traffic enables our teams to understand the best times to send updates on particular pieces of content. Understanding how long people stay on an asset or for how long they watch a video is also key.

We've discovered new traffic sources and the benefits of certain aggregators from watching our Chartbeat graphs, too. These data points have led to us reaching out for new partnerships.
Our team watches how long visitors have viewed videos or other content elements to determine better content to embed or how to rearrage/edit articles and future articles.

We leverage popularity with a Chartbeat API to serve recirculation content based on what's most popular using Chartbeat metrics.
Chartbeat is certainly better at visualizing content and segmenting the data all on one screen. We can filter by section, author, channel and more without leaving the main dashboard page. Combining properties together in roll up groups is another key feature. We're able to visualize the top content across the entire portfolio of brands and find crossover opportunities between them.

Do you think Chartbeat delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Chartbeat's feature set?

Yes

Did Chartbeat live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Chartbeat go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Chartbeat again?

Yes

Anyone who needs to know real-time metrics on website visitors needs Chartbeat. This most certainly includes publishers. But campaign managers can certainly use it as well. The "big board" feature is great for displaying in hallways and meeting rooms to remind other members of the teams that people visit your site, sometimes in quite large numbers.
