Overall Satisfaction with Chartbeat
We use Chartbeat to monitor past and live traffic and traffic sources and to perform AB tests. Chartbeat has been our primary tool for analyzing traffic, especially after the introduction of Google Analytics 4, which cut back on many options. Chartbeat is used throughout the day to monitor traffic to our website.
Pros
- AB headline testing.
- Daily reports.
- Monitoring individual editor performance.
- Monitoring live concurrents, there's hardly ever a bug.
Cons
- Sometimes, AB tests don't start despite plenty of concurrents being online.
- Daily email site reports don't mention the number of unique visitors.
- We would like to see which searches people enter in Google before visiting our website.
- AB testing has allowed us to gather more pageviews. There has been a 35 percent increase in articles we've subjected to AB tests.
Yes. It has alerted us to patterns in people's behaviors that we can capitalize on. In terms of interacting with the content, Chartbeat has made us more aware of the importance of a high circulation rate; as a result, we've come up with ways to improve that.
Yes. We've tried to improve our recirculation numbers by adding more links to different articles within an article. We've also doubled down on creating content that we expect people to search for since we see the live spikes in traffic when they do.
We're trying to improve engagement time and quality clicks by producing longer articles in addition to the regular (shorter) articles we produce. Concurrents is a metric we're always looking at. We know from experience that producing live content during games (we're in the sports business) generally increases the number of concurrents.
- Google Analytics and Google Analytics 360 (discontinued)
Google Analytics 360 had problems, but after it was discontinued, Google Analytics became a shell of its former self. An added benefit of Chartbeat is that it's more "live" (looking at live concurrents rather than in the past however many minutes) and tells you how that number stacks up to the same time in previous weeks.
