Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
We are able to sync files almost instantly to our distributed team, easily share internally and externally, and solve pressing file storage problems through the OS-integrated cloud sync file management. We use it for artwork files for our customers, as well as for internal file sharing and idea sharing. With team members around the globe, it has been the best solution for being able to access all of our files when we need them, and to sync back to the cloud what we don't need access to right now (and the flexibility to change our mind on-the-fly should that need to access a file directly change).
Pros
- Saves storage space while keeping an index at the ready
- Syncs files to the cloud quickly, making them available globally
- Maintains file versioning to trace file history or easily revert to a previous state
- Allows for easy sharing internally or externally via a link
Cons
- Make sharing a direct download link more accessible
- Allow an existing Dropbox folder to be selected when first setting up (it's painful to try to delete the original folder instance and then have to resync the entire account on the rare occasion that a machine has to be resurrected from a disk image)
- Recommend folders/files to move to offline only hosting, based on usage
- Dropbox saved us countless hours because of its speedy sync. Being able to tell someone in India that you're uploading a file in the USA and they have it within minutes is magic!
- The search functionality helped us to pull data where we couldn't on file sizes, certain specifications for our products (where we could parse the file names), and see when the last time a specific template for a custom item was modified.
Dropbox had superior speed and reliability compared to other services, as well as allowing us the flexibility to grow or condense our team as the business needs changed. Gaining extra storage space as team members were added turned out to be a boon for us, and the archived files option saved our sanity when our order files started to become cumbersome to scroll through.
