Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox

Dropbox is used as a common file repository. It is also used to electronically sign and manage controlled documents.

Pros

  • Makes documents communally available
  • Allows synch to windows
  • allows multiple editors

Cons

  • Frequently results in "conflicted copies" from parallel editing
  • E-sign-off produces new "(signed)" versions of files that don't follow the original link, resulting in parallel signatures vs consolidated
  • Finding documents can be difficult, since folders without access are invisible. The folder structure ought to at least be visible to know where access is needed in the first place.
  • Offsets on-prem server
  • Provides security, mitigating need for a third party service
  • Allowed for good speed of execution
Dropbox provided good value for reasonable capability
