Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
We use Dropbox as our main secure overall company file management. We have specific folder groups to be shared departmentally which helps keeps confidential files amongst relevant parties only. We also use Dropbox to securely share files both internally and externally.
Pros
- sharing files securely (for example: allowing expiration dates to share links)
- Being able to work on desktop while keeping the shared files updated
- Alerting admin when there is a mass data move to make sure that files are being managed safely and securely
Cons
- It would be a great improvement if there was a way to have a "Wiki"
- The desktop sync is clunky and hard to navigate to update which files are actually wanted to be synced vs which folders I want to keep online only so my computer hard drive isn't overwhelmed
- We have been able to reduce security vulnerabilities with the Dropbox feature that allows us to put an expiration date on a file shared with an external party.
- We have been able to keep confidential (ex: HR) folders privately shared amongst only the relevant people while also knowing that we're covered with MFA.
Dropbox is more rubust in security. It's more formal and contained compared to Google Drive. It's easier to manage users and access form an employer's perspective because it allows the files to be easily remain despite an employee's departure. Ownership can easily remain in shared file groups and/or transferred to another user. Licenses can also easily be managed, transferred, added, and deleted.
