Looker delivers basic BI reporting for a great price (free!)
Overall Satisfaction with Looker
We use Looker to visualize and display some of our business performance data. It covers the marketing campaigns, website performance, and revenue generation for our online ecommerce store. We are not able to report on every departmental metric due to limitations in data access, but for the advertising campaigns and web performance, it works fine.
Pros
- Price. It's free, which is great for organizations big and small.
- Visuals. Familiar charts and graphs allow for relatable information.
- Setup. Relatively straightforward integration, especially with Google products.
Cons
- Integrations. There are some default integrations but more would be nice.
- Error messaging. When something breaks, there's often little to no information about what to do to fix it.
- Speed. If you have a couple data integrations set up, your dashboard will typically take several minutes to load.
- Looker has been a much more customizable reporting solution for what we've used in the past, giving us more detailed insight into our performance.
- As it's free, the ROI has been positive as it's only been man hours invested.
- We're now able to look at a few metrics both on a MTD by day level and a YTD by week level.
Tableau did not have the customization that we were told it had, and it was expensive. Domo looks promising, but is also expensive so we haven't purchased it (we may in the future). Google Sheets was very basic and did fine for what it was, but we needed something a bit more robust.
