Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp

We use Mailchimp in order to communicate our customers' products and services. It is a valuable service that provides the tools to create, monitor and report on any number of campaigns. The latest additions on automations gives us the power to easily create a series of email campaigns in order to target clients throughout the buyer lifecycle.

Pros

  • Ease of use and creation of email newsletters
  • Great features in the area of automations
  • Vast amount of integrations with third party systems (ecommerce, crm, etc.)

Cons

  • The ability to store inside Mailchimp external data such as sales that can be used for further segmenting a list
  • Since the overall cost is not significant Mailchimp provides a steady channel of revenue for our customers
Campaign Monitor is another solution we used. Mailchimp offers a more robust feature set. Also, Mailchimp is updated more regularly and therefore is more up-to-date with the latest trends. Since Mailchimp is so popular the number of third party integrations is more extensive and can cover most of the needs that anyone would require.
It is well-suited to handle any time of email campaign including automations. The built-in email creation engine offers the right tools and options to create mobile-friendly emails.

It lacks the ability to track extensibly web site activity use. The event tracking is somehow limited. Options like tagging use based on their behaviours on the website (or mobile app) would vastly improve the total feature set.

Evaluating Mailchimp and Competitors

  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
The major factor that determined the selection of Mailchimp is the feature set and the commitment of the company to provide new features frequently. The features vary from standard email marketing to marketing automation and websites. The features are updated and add rich functionality to the platform. Since the need for a 360-degree approach of customers, Mailchimp enhances the characteristics by adding a more broad set of tools that help us communicate with customers through email, websites, campaigns, and social media.
Since most products offer trial services I would try to add to the selection process the evaluation of the support services of such a provider. There have been cases that the product is great but the support - when needed - was inadequate and really slow in terms of response. This creates frustration that affects the overall experience as well as the relationship with the clients.

Yes - The mobile interface provides some functions of the desktop interface but I rarely use it because it makes more sense to create campaigns directly from the web interface.
