Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp
We used Mailchimp for ad hoc/one-off email marketing campaigns, outside of our main CRM/automation system. It is currently being used by the digital department, for regular contact with one of our B2B subscriber lists. There is no doubt that Mailchimp is one of the most user-friendly (if not the most user-friendly) mailing systems out there on the market. All kinds of emails can be created with real ease, and once you get the hang of it, email jobs can be completed in no time whatsoever.
- The drag and drop email editor is intuitive and really easy to use.
- It also has the ability to create more advanced email marketing.
- The analytics are quite good and presented in a way that can be taken out of the tool and presented externally.
- Lately, it has become harder to import new data (without having to demonstrated consent) which isn't always possible.
- Adding custom merge tags/fields isn't possible when creating templates, which can create confusion.
- Templates are basic (but in my opinion basic emails perform the best).
- Integrations with CRMs available, but most marketers want CRM and email marketing to be built into one tool.
- It has been positive, especially when considering the speed of getting campaigns up and running (spending less time on creating campaigns).
- We've been able to generate business leads/further opportunities from the system.
Mailchimp does offer more functionality than some of its competing products. You can import your own email templates, for example, or you have access to complete comparative metrics. Mailchimp is also available for free providing that you don't exceed the subscriber limit for this free subscription. Constant Contact offers a free trial, which some may find useful, however, I would not be looking to trail email marketing systems (and spending time building email lists thinking that I may be moving to another provider if the system doesn't hold up to my needs).
Yes, multiple integration options are available and you can make Mailchimp an all-in-one marketing platform that allows companies to manage all their marketing activities - but I wouldn't build my technology stack around it (even though the product is great). So, our organization hasn't benefited from this as we have not intended to use it in that way. If you have an e-commerce, subscription, or membership site then you would likely need something more sophisticated that can manage everything out of the box and within the same system.
Keep your email marketing lists up to date (emailing and cleaning them regularly). Create small segments and use Mailchimp's tool to engage with those who engage with the emails the most. Don't try to do too much with the tool - it wasn't built it be that kind of a tool.
