Overall Satisfaction with Miro

I used Miro for Software Planning Events for 5 teams. We used the templates available and the process prescribed by SAFe. We were able to see the plans for all of the teams, discuss resource requirements and dependencies. We were able to identify risks, milestones, and timeline constraints. We used templates for user research, user journey maps, and MoSCoW to help organize what should be done and determine the value. Some of the templates were expanded on to create more complex templates for us to use regularly as part of our process improvements. Miro was powerful for us as we organized folders and organized files in a way that was interconnected so we others could follow the process and execute in the same way.

Pros

  • Bulk add is a game changer when trying to move data from an Excel spreadsheet to organize on a board to organize items.
  • MiroAI is innovative and useful in being able to take the data we added to synthesize findings and interpret the inputs. Being able to create slides to present to stakeholders and present items on the board in an organized way is spectacular. No need to hope someone views the board and stumbles through the information.
  • The timer and music setting is a nice touch for remote retrospective meetings and brainstorming sessions. It helps people collaborate in the same place while being able to contribute live.
  • The template library is a huge help to figure out where to start based on the data you are trying to compile or the board you are trying to build. There seems to be a template for almost anything.

Cons

  • Some of the integrations and being able to map data is something to be desired. Even being able to templatize data in cards or post-its would be helpful to integrate with third-party software.
  • Being able to organize cards effectively is a little frustrating at times. It could be user error, but the feature of selecting items and adjusting the layout is pretty tough to figure out. This is especially true when items are part of a frame and can't easily be selected. It would be nice to be able to create a layout template to apply to frames.
  • Miro becomes a separate tool to use and has been frustrating to have to reference Miro as a separate file in the process. Being able to use document files within Miro or interconnect Miro with other files would be less frustrating.
  • Miro still feels raw. You can create a card, but there are no data models. If I could create objectives, I would be able to track or report progress somehow by association of other related cards or items. If not within Miro, the ability to integrate with another system would be nice instead of having to do double work.
  • Miro is a great tool for visual brainstorming and content creating, but I still find myself starting in Miro and figuring out how to take the content out of Miro and implementing it in some other tool.
We integrated with AzureDevOps and it worked well based on what was available. There were some pieces we wished worked better. Being able to match Epics, Features, Tasks, effort, and details like acceptance criteria would be nice for when teams get ahead of themselves during planning so they don't forget or miss details discussed.
Miro is probably the tool that made remote work permanency a real option. Collaborating on user feedback organization, brainstorming, and planning were the most obvious use cases. The most important thing was that stakeholders would have access to the boards and we are able to be transparent without needing to create special documents or presentation. My teams have been able to draft requirements out and share boards to get input from others in order to establish alignment.
While some of the tools are offering similar functionality to what Miro does, Miro still ranks higher than these tools, in my opinion. Aha's tool is very basic and evolving, but it looks like Miro's first version of their tool. The Figma and FigJam tools are evolving to include robust features like Miro, but Miro is still ahead and couldn't be replaced when my team compared them both a few months ago.

Do you think Miro delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Miro's feature set?

Yes

Did Miro live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Miro go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Miro again?

Yes

Miro is a leader in their space. I've compared other products to them and Miro continuously rises above others in robust features and functionality. It is a collaboration power tool that I would recommend to every organization I work at. Miro is especially helpful for product management, scrum leaders, research, and design. While Figma leads in the design space, Miro can still hang with wireframes for websites and the start of apps in the brainstorming stage. Hands down, Miro is the best whiteboard tool out there.
