Overall Satisfaction with Rubrik

We have two Rubrik clusters installed at 2 locations with multiple edge devices in other states. We use it to back up the majority of our servers as well as SQL systems. The [ease] of use makes recovery very easy and one less thing to really worry about. It's pretty quick and painless. The DBA's also use it to copy prod data as a refresh method which they can then do themselves. There have been some challenges but [it's] still night and day better than what we were using.

Pros

  • Backups - it's what they started out doing and still at the core.
  • SLA Domains make life a breeze and can save you from yourself as a general catchall when new servers are introduced into the environment unexpectedly.
  • [The] user interface is very straightforward and helps to identify any issues.
  • When there is an issue, support reaches out in a timely manor.

Cons

  • We are having a slow GUI response issue right now that has been hard to pin down.
  • Replication times need to be improved. When DBAs take a snap it takes a while for it to be replicated over so they can then pull from there for testing.
  • Support turnover has been an issue. They've let some quality help go and it's hurt us and them.
  • I cannot speak to the actual numbers on the ROI, but I can speak to the time saved in day-to-day tasks.
  • Confidence is very high in the backups and allow[s] more of my time to spread the focus.
  • Only real issue would be replication time as a negative, but it's still better than it was previously so I'd consider that a plus still.
We looked at Cohesity and it could've been a contender had we not already gotten in bed with Rubrik. They seemed to have the same answers to our old problems as Rubrik with a simple platform. While nice, they were not providing anything extra or even close to make us consider switching. They also fell short on following through with the presentation.

All issues aside, I'd still recommend Rubrik all day long. The product simply works and does the core function really well. Management is able to get in the interface, look around and have a good general idea that everything is going ahead as planned. On the admin side [it's] really easy to work with and for the most part, everything makes perfect sense.

Customer Experience

The GUI was successfully designed to be very easy to use and work through. It is a very logical work flow that is easy to navigate and just makes sense. That is part of the charm when in the moment of stress, you can still find your way around and accomplish the desired recovery.
Rubrik support has been pretty good. There have been a few issues with new releases we have experienced and are still considering if we want to make the jump to version nine. There are a few things we are concerned about which are giving us pause. That being said, support is working hard to answer our questions.
Thankfully the pricing structure is not something I have to worry about and with that being said, I am guessing the pricing is pretty good because we are obviously still using it throughout our environment. I am thankful for that every single day when ever I have a recovery request.

Using Rubrik

35 - Only Administrators have the ability to use Rubrik.
5 - I'd like to say it takes a lot of expertise to manage and support our Rubrik systems, but its honestly pretty easy once the ground work is laid out.

It really does depend on how well v9 rolls out in to our environment. We have concerns but are working with support to get any and all questions we might come up with answered to our satisfaction.
