Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct
Currently our accounting dept uses Intacct for all normal accounting functions. In addition we have several managers in other departments access to dashboards and select sections of the software to monitor their budget spending.
- The dimensions are the key to everything great about intacct!
- The report writing capabilities are awesome!
- The ability to reclassify entries without having to make a separate GJE has really cut down on garbage entries in our GL
- The report writer is good but could be a little more user friendly.
- It’s a little slow to add lines when making a journal entry/bill etc.
- Intacct paid for itself the first year.
- We earn the majority of our income during 1 week of the year. We were able to access immediate sales results for our horses by using some unique reports on our dashboards. It was very helpful to decision makers at the yearling sales.
We use Bill.com to integrate with Intacct for our AP processes. Having this software connect directly to our accounting software saves our manager so much time and money in the invoice approval process.
We have consolidated companies and being able to see the top level financials instantly and make entries at the top level is so helpful! It saves a ton of time each month.
The Intacct implementation wasn't what I would call easy, but it wasn't unduly difficult either. Like any good implementation, you have to spend the time thinking through your set-up and other changes that will happen once you switch. But once we had thought through all those ramifications, the actual set-up process itself was very easy.
Sage Intacct Feature Ratings
Not-For-Profit Usage
1) Saves time - no more creating the same Excel reports over and over each month. All our primary financial information is available in real time at the push of a button.
2) Allows the entire accounting department to work remotely, saving commute time & child care costs for employees and office space for the business.
3) More accuracy - because we aren't creating multiple Excel reports the chance of human error is more limited.

- Bill.com
- SalesForce (in process)
- Nexonia (investigative stage)
The Bill.com integration was why we originally looked at Intacct as a financial accounting system - we wanted to be able to approve invoices remotely with many non-accounting approvers. That integration went fantastically and it was able to pay for itself in less than a year.
We are in the implementation stages of SalesForce (to connect equine information with financial information) and Nexonia (purchase card transactions). I have high hopes for both those implementations as well.

We have dashboards for all our key managers for everything from equine sales results to event planning budgets. These are referenced daily by our staff and have cut down on repeated questions to the accounting department. Its made accounting information more self-service, if you will.
This makes a HUGE difference for us. We have 4 companies and the monthly consolidations used to be manual with lots of entries back and forth between the companies. Now, we just make intercompany entries in the consolidated company and the entries show up in the correct set of books.
Our mission is to raise the best thoroughbred horses in the world. To do that, we do a lot of data analysis. By removing a lot of the rote accounting work that was taking up lots of time, its freed up our top level accountants and other managers to be able to use their time for work that better serves the organization as a whole rather than cranking out reports that are outdated by the time they are completed.
Hi-Tech Usage
Our growth and success really isn't a direct result of using Intacct - more of an indirect benefit. But, because we do use Intacct, we spend less time doing rote accounting work and more of our time advising our management team and doing other work that directly benefits the company and helps contribute to our overall success.
We are privately held so this isn't a concern for us. I can see how Intacct would be extremely helpful with the reporting that goes along with the new requirements however.
Our close went from almost 7 days before Intacct to less than 3 days for a complete financial close. We do a complete close quarterly and a soft close monthly. Our soft close went from several days to around 4 hours.
We have not yet integrated with SalesForce but are in process. Very excited to see how this turns out
COVID-19 Updates & Changes
If we hadn't switched to Intacct when we did, our accounting processes would be a disaster right now. When we went home at the beginning of lockdown, all I did was literally bring home my computer and monitor and start working just like I do when I'm in the office. The process of moving our accounting department remote went so smoothly that we've decided to make it permanent. All three accountants now work primarily from home (we do have 1 in-office day each to cover paper check cutting, petty cash requests, face-time, etc). This allowed us to completely close one office location and use that space for other business processes. And it cut my commute down from 2 hours per day to less than 5 minutes!

1 - One of our accountants is the primary support for Intacct - she was the one who did the implementation and designed the dashboards. The person who supports Intacct in-house needs to be someone who knows the organization inside and out and who has a good understanding of the types of financial information needed by end users to get their jobs done well and make their lives easier.

The possible time savings was the most important factor
I wouldn't change the selection process at all but I would change a few things on implementation now that I know the software better. I think I could have done a better job implementing it.

Yes - as a general rule, you can quickly learn this product after a short tutorial. The training was more helpful in that it showed us what could be done with the software. The "how" was easily learned.

Relationship with Sage
Cost of product, cost of implementation
Be very clear about how much work you do or don't want to do with the implementation. In my case, I wanted to have a lot of hands-on work during the implementation so I would be ready to maintain the system after implementation was over. After the engineer and I got that squared away, we had a great working relationship.
