Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct
Sage Intacct is being used solely by our accounting department. We implemented Intacct in 2019 as a huge upgrade from our legacy system, Microsoft GP. The ability to generate reports and trial balances that span across all of our entities has been a great time saver, as have the ability to use allocations.
- Allocations [that] allow you to spread expenses or revenue across multiple GL dimensions such as customers, departments, and classes. Instead of manually creating an allocation for a given expense that may be spread among ten different customers, you create an allocation once and just choose that allocation when posting your AP bill or journal entry.
- Reporting can be filtered to show only a specific entity or the report can show all entities combined. You can also set up groups [that] would allow you to run a report for 3 of your 5 entities for instance.
- If you use an allocation to post an entry, the GL detail report currently does not show how that allocation split the entry. The report shows what allocation was used, but does not show you which customer, department, and class the revenue or expense was coded to.
- Search fields for GL entries, AR, and AP can only be used by knowing the start of what you are searching for. For instance, if you have a customer named The Funny Pages, your search has to start with The. You cannot type in just Funny or Pages.
- Search fields for dates [are] limited. If I want to filter on all March 2021 journal entries, I can only filter on 03 (March) which would pull in March entries across all years in the system, or I could type 03/31/2021, but that would only give me entries for that specific date. There is [no] way to tell the system to give me all entries for March 2021 only.
- We have seen a very positive ROI impact [with] respect to time savings by utilizing allocations and multi-entity reporting.
We have utilized, and seen the benefit of, automatic approval processes related to AP Bills and posting journal entries. We no longer need to manually inform the approver that they need to approve something in the system.
The multi-entity functionality has been useful for us. We have five entities and can post entries to any of them without needing to switch which entity we are logged into.
Sage Intacct is fairly easy to implement and customize. We utilized an outside vendor to do the heavy lifting at the beginning, but then I finished the process of setting up the system for our users myself. It is a reasonably intuitive process.

Microsoft Dynamics GP and SL are both very antiquated systems. They are rigid and do not offer much customization. Quickbooks is affordable but lacks in its reporting functionalities for a mid-sized business. Xero is a decent system but is not as powerful as Sage Intacct.
