Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic

The software is being used by the entire organization. We use it to monitor internal and customer hardware. We have nine different data centers, so it provides a bird's-eye view of the status of the devices on our network. Additionally, it allows us to detect a problem before it's a bigger problem
  • The GUI is intuitive which is very important. If the navigation is too complicated, then efficiency and the overall experience is jeopardized.
  • It provides an excellent dashboard feature. This allows us to zoom in on specific devices for reference, insights, or monitoring.
  • It allows us to scale at our own pace by simply adding on power packs.
  • We have over 34,000 devices in our system. So, sometimes running reports can be clunky or hit or miss.
  • SNMP doesn't always classify discovered devices correctly.
  • An export report to excel on the live events page would be nice.
  • Improved our overall NPS score. Our event monitoring team is more responsive and as a result, our customers are happier than they were previously.
  • Challenged us as a company to think outside the box when monitoring. The flexibility of being able to implement automation, scripts, etc has allowed us to do some pretty neat things that we were not able to do with our previous system.
  • Increased our MRR. We are able to offer this as a service to our customers as well as dedicated instances for bigger clients.
Yes - Zenoss & Nagios. With Zenoss, it wasn't scalable to the level we needed. Additionally, we were in need of reporting metrics and though the feature existed, it was unusable due to its performance and the size of our network. In regards to Nagios, configurations and adding/removing devices was too complicated. You had to be familiar with the Linux command line and editing config files to make simple changes and additions.
Our level of visibility has changed and increased. This is primarily due to the fact that we can monitor more and more in-depth compared to our previous system.
We are using Sciencelogic to monitor our internal systems. We also offer basic and advanced monitoring to our customers. Additionally, we offer dedicated managed instances to our customers with larger networks.
We have a dedicated event management team that manage the events in ScienceLogic 24-7. Within this team, there are a couple of different tiers.
  • We've been able to build our own reporting tool around ScienceLogic. Our tool basically grabs the data from SL and stores it in a data warehouse. That data can be accessed by our custom system and manipulated to provide the needed metrics and tell more of a story.
  • I think the most unexpected was providing dedicated instances for our customers. We originally planned to just use ScienceLogic to monitor our internal network. However, as we became more familiar with the product we discovered we had customers who had some of the same monitoring needs we had.
Zenoss didn't offer the flexible scaling that ScienceLogic offered. This was a huge need for us. Additionally, ScienceLogic is able to do more and go more in-depth overall. When comparing ScienceLogic to Nagios the word "simplicity" jumps out. Though Nagios was scalable, it was in-efficient, complicated to learn and clunky. ScienceLogic is more intuitive and business-friendly overall.
If you have a large network like ours, spanned across different data centers and locations, then this product does really well in terms of monitoring and providing useful information and statuses. on the opposite end of that stick, having a lot of devices can sometimes mean clunky reporting. This is why we ended up writing our own reporting tools. With that being said, this system does offer that flexibility!
