Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic SL1

I use ScienceLogic SL1 to perform infrastructure monitoring for my customer. It addresses the following business problems: (1) We use separated monitoring tool in server & network environment before and use different method to monitor. We choose to monitor server & network devices in one tool. (2) Auto-scanning for inventory is what we like to use.
  • Auto-scanning for inventory registration
  • Write your own powerpack and can use in all similar environments
  • No agent installation required to perform monitoring
  • Need Python skill
  • Remote connection method for monitoring may be blocked by security compliance control
  • Each server or monitoring target will require credentials stored in SL1. If different devices use different credentials, they may cause trouble.
  • Need to consider monitoring quantity. More monitoring devices may have more savings or demonstrate the speed for deployment.
Yes - Nagios & Solarwinds. These two products are for server & network devices monitoring.
(1) In order to centralize the monitoring console, use one console to monitor all.
(2) ScienceLogic SL1 has open restful API for the application to send out application event alerts.
(3) ScienceLogic SL1 has an event handling function and also can integrate automation runbook function.
We used a traditional monitoring tool like Nagios before. After using ScienceLogic SL1,
(1) the agentless function is different from the traditional one and supports rapid deployment with the standard platform.
(2) Event handling function is different from traditional tool and can prevent duplicate alert and prevent mass tickets (after integrating with ITSM tool for auto-ticketing)
Using standard image or platform can provide speed & good quality service to our customers. ScienceLogic SL1 uses an agentless deployment function and help us to reduce monitoring agent deployment.
(1) Integrating with ITSM tool and can provide auto-ticketing function
(2) Application can write simple monitoring script and send event to ScienceLogic SL1 to provide centralized event management and application alerts.
  • Powerpack can't fulfill every customer 's environment and needs to be modified or rewritten
  • Virtual devices provide application event monitoring
  • Inventory scanning can provide us automatically a way to collect inventory
ScienceLogic SL1 is well suited for the more standard monitoring environment. SL1 will be well suited due to being able to write once and apply to many. This can save us much implementation time.
It's less appropriate for the more complicated and less standard (customized) environment, each monitoring target will require different customized environment. It will need to customize in SL1 and cost us lots of monitoring implementation schedule.
