Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my company there is peope working full remote. We need a solution to discuss / exchange easily with remote person. Slack is a very good solution to manage all the discussions that could happen in a company. I use it intensively especially to log all the decisions we are taking everyday on architecture design.

Pros and Cons

Pros

the management of channel is very good
the search is quite good if specific words were used in post
the management of notifications is awesome

Cons

I'm doing a weekly recap of what happened based on post done during the week. I would appreciate to be able to automatize a part of it with a Slack feature
little bugs on mobile app to find emoticones

Return on Investment

it makes remote people engage
The company memory of what happened in the project is Slack
The huddle feature help us to stay focus using only Slack for communication

Usability

I'm giving this rating because this tool is close to be perfect for collaboration management. I do not use it as a standalone solution but for the discussion management I don't know a better solution. For me they are the reference for having a great collaboration in a company.

Alternatives Considered

Atlassian Confluence and Microsoft Teams

My company selected Slack and my previous company too. As Enterprise architect this tool is perfect to me. It goes straight to the point, it's fast, it's light and clear on the purpose. You can prepare your message without anoying others. You can format your text with enough tips. I found others solutions harder to use, less intuitive.

I use Slack a lot to record everything that is happening is the project. Thanks to Slack + my practice of recording everything that is happening in the project, it's perfect when someone is asking why we took this decision ? You will find the decision + all the related discussions that were made before... And often the person asking for the "why" was part of the decision making process. It's a very good knowledge reminder if it is well filled.
