Overall Satisfaction with Splashtop

I use Splashtop SOS to provide support to my clients, and Splashtop Business to access my home server from anywhere in the world I happen to be. I've been very happy with both, and I've recommended Splashtop Business to multiple clients. I had previously used TeamViewer in both roles. Splashtop has all the features I need (multiple monitor support, shared clipboard, drag-and-drop file transfers, support for multiple OSs, per-client logging, you name it); it's much more affordable, AND Slashtop customer service is much nicer to deal with if you ever need it.

Pros

  • Multiple monitor support - I can cycle through my client's monitors, show them all on one screen at the same time, or distribute them among my own monitors.
  • Shared clipboard: cut/copy on one end of the connection and paste into the other. This has saved me SO MANY hours of frustration.
  • Multiple OS support: Windows is the easiest - just have the client download it, run it, and say "Yes" to the UAC prompt. Getting Splashtop SOS running on a Mac takes a few more steps - the client has to allow multiple permissions, otherwise you can't see or control their system - but there's an on-screen guide that makes it easy. iOS and Android are "watch-only" - if there's a way to take control, I don't know it - but even so it's been a lifesaver on multiple occasions.

Cons

  • Installation on the Mac - I don't actually know whether it's possible for Splashtop to change the process (security!), but I wish it were a little easier to set permissions. I'm generally helping someone who's not familiar with the guts of the system, and trying to explain what they need to do over the phone while I can't see anything... well, it takes me back to the old days.
  • Dropped/unstable connection - I wish that Splashtop would "give up" a little faster. I often have to deal with a client whose Internet connection is flaky, and staring at a frozen screen while Splashtop decides whether to hang up and try again can be frustrating. (It's VERY good at re-establishing the connection automatically once it does give up - I just wish it would do it a little sooner.)
  • List of session codes - Splashtop SOS lets me connect to multiple clients at the same time, which is amazing. Unfortunately, the launch window only remembers the most recent session code - so if I need to disconnect/reconnect, only the last one happens automatically. It's not a huge deal - I can have the client read me the code again - but a recent history list would be nice.
  • Remote support makes my business possible, period.
  • Switching from TeamViewer to Splashtop has made a huge difference to my operation: the cost is both lower and more predictable, and getting from "answering the phone from a client in trouble" to "satisfied client" is much faster and easier.
  • I apologize that I don't actually have hard numbers, but I can sincerely recommend Splashtop and Splashtop SOS. It will make your life and business better!
I've only needed support once - three years ago, and I don't remember what it was about - but they got me fixed and on my way within 15 minutes. Heck, I might have been calling myself - that's the kind of service I try to provide to my clients.
I will admit up front that I have not done any penetration testing to personally verify just how robust Splashtop's security is, but I have paid attention to independent rating sources (yes, including TrustRadius) and I have yet to find anyone with a serious, substantive criticism. I can personally attest that Splashtop makes it easy enough to use their security features that you're likely to actually do it - and, in my experience, that's the most important factor. The most secure systems are completely useless if using them properly is so onerous that you ignore them.
I believe that on the first day I created a trial account, it took less than ten minutes from starting the account-creation process to starting my first remote support session. Of course, I had to go back a few days later to enter a credit card - so let's say fifteen minutes, just to be fair. Seriously: it couldn't be much easier or faster.
Yes - TeamViewer and Fog Creek Copilot

TeamViewer: expensive, unpleasant to deal with as a solo IT consultant

Copilot: after the initial honeymoon, development stalled and it just didn't have all the features I needed. I really liked it at the time, and I still sometimes accidentally tell a client to "click on Copilot". (Please note: there's no connection with Microsoft's AI products that use the Copilot name.)
