Likelihood to Recommend

Amazon Chime

Because of the consistent and unending inconveniences and difficulties we have had with Amazon Chime, I am not likely at all to ever recommend this solution. Having a call/meeting software solution is essential to our sales cycle because most of our meetings have to happen through a computer, and if this solution is weak then it negatively effects everything. Our prospects have had a lot of difficulty connecting to calls and some meetings have been canceled altogether because of this.

Lifesize Video Conferencing

We had a game of the week that we were covering, along with other major area matchups. We were able to collaborate our games altogether and provide a stream that kept us up to date with what else was happening across our area, and how it affected our game of the week as far as standings. Our initial setup was difficult, and we had to work around other workers who are technologically impaired, per se. The support team provided to us was mostly unresponsive, but we managed in spite of it.

Lifesize Video Conferencing

Pros

  • Great call quality! The conference line is crystal clear.
  • Strong video quality. We've never had problems with the video conference feed cutting out.
  • The app is pretty user friendly and easy to use.
  • Easy to send invites and to give teammates the ability to schedule calls/video conferences on behalf of another account.

  • It is secure and enterprise ready, so when we have calls with our enterprise clients, we do not have any problems with using the Lifesize Video Conferencing
  • It integrates with Skype For Business and Slack which is great
  • Video quality is very very good and it makes online communication more productive and enjoyable
  • 24/7 technical support

Cons

  • Amazon Chime is not user friendly. People who we have meetings with who have never used Amazon Chime regularly have difficulty connecting to the call, especially if the call is international.
  • You have to download Amazon Chime to share your screen. When we need our prospects to share their screen for a product training, asking them to download a meeting software is awkward and not smooth.

  • Most of the issues we have experienced have been because of our own network problems however we have had some random connectivity issues not related to our network. They are always resolved eventually.
  • Lifesize used to offer a non cloud based option for video conferencing that, for us, would have been a better option.
  • Even though their support is good, the assistance you get on initial setup is practically nil. They have a nice thick technical manual but we still floundered a bit getting the setting just right.

Because of the desktop app. It is not that good, pretty heavy, missing features to take control of the distant computer for instance (like GoToMeeting). Also the mobile app is missing some nice features: when you want to connect from your mobile, you have to do everything manually, whereas with GoToMeeting, you just do 1 click, and that's it, you've joined the meeting dirrectly from your calendar invitation

We rolled out Lifesize with minimal instructions and high adoption. The touchpad on the Phone 2 is solid from a usability perspective. The touchpad on the Phone 2 allows us to remove remotes. The whole Icon experience is so much better than the color multi-function buttons on the room units (which were confusing to people). Thankfully the room units also work well with the Phone 2.

Since we are an educational institution we not only have scheduled classes which must be available, but we have staff members in a variety of areas ranging from recruiting and admissions to advancement and the President's office who need to connect with students, alumni and other interest groups, often at odd hours. I have not, since using Lifesize had anyone complain of not being able to connect

We chose Lifesize because we are in a consortium with several other small universities. Each university has its own LMS and professors and IT departments each either provide or allow users to use additional tools or programs. Additionally, as our staff members use Lifesize to communicate with those outside our system we must have a tool that is capable of integration with what is being used by our faculty and staff as well as those they interact with in the course of their academic business.

They seem understaffed. There are smart people there. When I have needed an RMA they are generally pretty solid. I still keep an extra unit of each model around as a precaution.Their ticketing system is horrible. Rather than being able to reply to a ticket within an email, you have to click on a link inside the ticket to issue a reply.

We wanted something that looked impressive but that anyone can use. LifeSize worked very well here. It's been a big success.

Alternatives Considered

I have used GoToMeeting, which is a major competitor to Amazon Chime, and I can confidently say that GoToMeeting is literally ten times better. We rarely have any of the issues with GoToMeeting that we do with Amazon Chime. I highly recommend GoToMeeting over Amazon Chime because your meetings and demos will go much smoother and the user interface is much cleaner.

Return on Investment

  • Amazon Chime has been an incredibly cost effective way to add video and conference line services (with screen sharing) to our day to day operations because we have an account for free for being Vonage customers.
  • A pro account only costs $15 a month, and you only need one pro account for a small office. If others in your organization need to join, all you need is a basic account to join. You need a pro account in order to launch and administer meetings.

  • We are a non profit organization. Not in it for ROI
