I wasn't involved in selecting Miro. Miro boards offer a more versatile digital workspace than Smartsheet. Smartsheet is better suited for creating Gantt charts and following task charts or workflows. Miro board allows a blank slate for associates to simultaneously record …

We used lucidchart to create quick tech documentation but Miro is able to do that plus a lot more on the design/brain storming side. We used smartsheets for roadmapping and still would for in-depth project management and budgeting but Miro is more visually appealing for a high …
Chose Miro
Miro is more user friendly than Smartsheet, and provides for a much more free-hand use and variety of expressions than all of the above.
When it comes to project management and calendar or process management, Miro is less functional and the only advantage is really that it is …
Chose Miro
Miro has more flexibility and is better than iObeya with better interfacing with external tools. Miro is well suited in my opinion for higher level planning and visualization (especially for leadership) of the items in a Jira or Smartsheet etc.

I have worked with Jamboard, but I found Miro to be much more flexible and feature rich. Miro has tons of templates you can use it has a corresponding set of collaboration capabilities with features like clustering sticky notes and voting. When it came to organizing a large …
Chose Miro
It has a whiteboard app, but it lacks the functionality that Miro offers. I wish there were a microdot task integration. I like that I can tag myself or others in Microsoft products (i.e., PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc.) and it will populate in my to-do list.
Chose Miro
We use Jira in other departments and some IT folks put content out on Confluence but I don't find it was user friendly as Miro and harder to log in and access. I use the Miro downloaded desktop app which serves me well and easier than going to a web site. I formerly was a heavy …

We compared Miro against well-known collaboration and diagramming platforms, but none of them were able to deliver the same experience as Miro. It hits a sweet spot by enabling easy project collaboration while providing the convenience to create diagrams and flows.

Most of the people in our company who use Lucidchart are in our IT department and for them, it works. It is much more structured and rigid a platform. The Learning department prefers Miro to Lucidchart because it is not overly structured or rigid. It is so flexible! I …
Chose Miro
I was able to play around with Atlassian white board but it is not as robust as Miro, it has basic functionality and our Technology has not endorsed it to the end users
Chose Miro
Miro integrates with other systems our business utilizes, whereas Trello doesn't. Miro also has much higher functionality and diverse toolsets, as opposed to Trello's quite specific kanban/task list functionality.
Chose Miro
Miro works well with each of these other apps but we use these other apps to fill the gaps that Miro doesn't currently fill.

pros and cons with each. I describe Miro as the wild wild west. I can be utilized just about any way you wish, and governance is difficult to control. In contrast, many other platforms lack the flexibility, but adds an element of consistency and structure.
Chose Miro
I'm not a UX pro, but for my needs, Miro blew away the competition for two main reasons. First, Miro is so incredibly easy to get set up with and get running. It's not intimidating to use and it's easy for anyone on my team to just jump in and collaborate with me (even those …
Chose Miro
Miro is way easier, has much more flexibility and is far more effective to collaborate on. It is really that simple. I can do almost everything I want to do on there but it remains easy to pick up for people that I ask to collaborate with me. I did not personally choose Miro …
Chose Miro
It's definitely top, it's much much easier to use.
Chose Miro
I've used Microsoft Whiteboard >> Miro is far superior. I've also used Frameable Whiteboard, and although it has less integration, the interface is more intuitive and natural.
Chose Miro
I have not used anything similar to Miro! Really enjoy Miro capabilities because I have not seen anything close to it in the market yet.
Chose Miro
Miro combines key features from both LucidChart and LuidSpark which is nice but Lucid offer more process mapping shape options.
Chose Miro
Miro's project management and boards far exceed these tools.
Smartsheet
Chose Smartsheet
I tried Miro for a while and it just didn't have the features Smartsheet does. If I'm going to pay for a "supercharged Excel," I expect to really do a ton more than Excel!

Miro
Miro is well suited for designers, software developers, business-related personnel, and managers. Based on my experience, I would recommend that software developers use it to make their ideas explicit, especially for greenfield projects, and with the open collab tools, like the comments, all the software team can comment and share powerful feedback!

Smartsheet
Smartsheet shines for collaboration. When you have multiple people involved with planning events Smartsheet makes it easy to share and collaborate. For instance, multiple people can be in Smartsheet working at the same time. Also setting permissions for exactly those who need to know is quite easy with Smartsheet. For data analytics and general spreadsheet purposes Excel is better but for project management and event planning Smartsheet is superior

Pros
Miro
  • Makes internal coordination between admin team and tutors extremely painless. It's like a single place where everyone can drop ideas, get updates and notes without loss of context which usually happens in long email threads.
  • Versioning and board history are handled very well, which drastically reduces the workload. They help me track how a policy or math guideline has evolved, and also make it easy to revert changes if something doesn't work.
  • Comments stick exactly where they are meant to, making internal reviews much clearer. Admins don't have to guess which note refers to which rule or section.
  • Exports are clean, so even non-Miro teammates get it instantly.

Smartsheet
  • Its hard to overstate the value of familiarity. Being able to use a tool that has some familiarity takes away the time needed to train and orient employees on a new tool and allows an organization to hit the ground running.
  • Smartsheet covers most of the basics of a project management tool, the usual tasks, milestones and project viewing options.
  • For data viewing, you get multiple data viewing options including a calendar view (good for marketing teams and those who work around scheduling), Kanban, Gaant etc

Cons
Miro
  • Sticky notes cannot be easily resized. It would often be useful for them to transform into workspaces, because they become actual text content rather than just notes.
  • Perhaps there is no option to sort the work boards according to specific criteria (such as alphabetical order or date).
  • The various functions available should perhaps be explained clearly with a tooltip or something similar while you are working with the various tools. I often don't realise that certain things can be done.

  • Smartsheet set up is similar to Excel, yet when you upload an Excel file, things like conditional formatting are lost. Smartsheet has its own conditional formatting, and you have to reinstate the rules. It would be great if those would apply automatically once a file is uploaded
  • Some Smartsheet management and access rules can take some tweaking to work properly. This may be a case of offering more info to admins so they can apply these better and with more efficiency

Likelihood to Renew
Miro
I have advocate for the renew of Miro quite few times, however, it is not under my control as the decision is made in another team with their own budget. I would buy for my own entrepreneur projects (1-2 members) as I do know the value and work there 100%. So, I would pay out of my own pocket to get the value. However, If I wouldn't know the value it provides, it would be hard to decide with the current freemium features

It definitely meets our needs as far as organizing and archiving our tasks and files. As we train more staff to view it, I see opportunities for more improvement, which I am sure this program can handle. I look forward to seeing continued improvement from Smartsheet on their capabilities and functionality.

Usability
Miro
I would rate Miro an 8 out of 10 for overall usability. It's easy to use and has lots of features for making the work easier. I can drag nodes, connect ideas and comment in real time without explaining much to anyone because every member of all the teams have access. For labelling schema design and maths concept mapping, it is incredibly perfect. However, issues related to lag when many nodes introduced and absence of LaTeX making complex equation writing hectic, are of great concern. If those issues were resolved, it's an easy 10.

Smartsheet
Smartsheet is very easy to learn. However, while I have been able to pick it easily, Microsoft Excel and Project super users that I have trained on Smartsheet get bogged down in the differences and can find it frustrating. Explaining the differences ahead of time and why Smartsheet is being chosen instead of a different software seems to counteract those reactions

Reliability and Availability
Miro
I only give a 9/10 because of the speed at which it loads. I have never experienced issues with Miro logging me out early, or some other technical issue causing the program to crash, or even it just loading in perpetuity without ever actually coming up (unlike other programs such as SFDC). It take a minute for all of my boards to come up after I click on it in my favorites, but besides that, it's all good.

Performance
Miro
Sometimes it gets quite slow and there is a correlation between this and the size of the board. Hence we are trying to segment the boards based on product stages or projects so that the size doesn't go big. When you go from discovery to delivery on a simple board, it will get large and difficult to load, even crash or go white screen

Support Rating
Miro
We have never reached out to or contacted support because Miro's platform has been incredibly intuitive and user-friendly. The comprehensive resources available, such as tutorials, documentation, and community forums, have provided all the guidance we needed. The seamless integration with our existing tools and the reliability of the platform have ensured that we rarely encounter issues that require external assistance. This self-sufficiency has allowed us to focus more on our projects and collaboration without interruptions. Overall, our experience with Miro has been smooth and efficient, eliminating the need for additional support

I give this rating because it fills a niche in the market. MS Project scares many away from proper task management but there are limited tools our there, especially cloud-based that are mobile-friendly. Smartsheet fills this market gap, especially for small to medium-sized businesses. IT is not fair to compare it to MS Project, but fairer to see what gaps it fills.

Online Training
Miro
There was a series of webinars which Miro hosted with our organization that went over the basics, then progressively became more advanced with additional sections. The instructors were knowledgeable, and provided examples throughout the sessions, as well as answered peoples' questions. There was ample time and experience on the calls to cover a range of topics. The instructors were also very friendly and sociable, as well as honest. Of course Miro isn't a "God-tool" that does absolutely everything, but the instructors were aware and emphasized the strengths where Miro had them and sincerely accepted feedback.

Miro
Easy to learn, Miro has a series of videos on YouTube that effectively taught this program to my team members and me. The program is drag-and-drop and works excellently. People pick up on how to use it efficiently, and it's great for organizing ideas more freely. This product is more challenging for some older audiences who are not accustomed to using a touchpad, but for most, it was very easy to use.

It's absolutely paramount to take a few minutes to actually play with the software. It's nearly impossible to do anything wrong or make a mistake which cannot be fixed easily. Under the help menu is Live Training option. After you familiarize yourself with the commands, watch the live training for some in depth understanding of how to make the software fit your needs perfectly.

Alternatives Considered
Miro
I would say on par, but a better value than Mural, hence why our company changed contracts. And, at this time, much better than Microsoft Whiteboard. With that being said, Microsoft has a lot of money to throw at it to add more features and obviously syncs with other office programs. It may be something from a feature standpoint to look at.

Jira and Redmine are much more robust and technologically advanced project management solutions. I enjoy using either when managing a very large project. However, I prefer to use Smartsheet for my smaller to medium sized projects. As for Google Drive - I would say that Google sheets and Smartsheet are almost identical in my opinion when it comes to functionality. Personally I prefer to manage smaller projects via Google Drive, but it is a personal preference!

Maybe is possible now so... Could be useful to manage in some way source code for the projects? not to edit so when we make solutions with different components in MIro, maybe each component could redirect to the source code of this component

Return on Investment
Miro
  • I currently save around two to three hours a week now doing administrative tasks. It has saved the need for sending some emails and holding meetings.
  • I trust that I won't miss anything from my team now that we are all in sync with this tool. No more pouring over document comments in Office 365, Emails, Jira tasks, etc. It's all in one place, and can combine all of those other tools there as well with its elegant linking approach.
  • Starting projects and leading others is easy with these persistent and real time updates during meetings. No more "circling back on that point" because it is addressed right now!

  • This has really opened up collaboration across teams. A lot less working in silos.
  • It hasn't fully replaced any one tool so it means having to go to another place. Hopefully, we can eliminate a tool or two in the next six months.
