If you're using videos for a smaller part of your marketing, and you just want something that offers a better experience than YouTube and gives you basic tracking for a decent price, then I'd say go for Vidyard. If you are primarily marketing with videos, have a large library, or want to report heavily on your videos, maybe look for a different solution

Vimeo

Vimeo would be the best platform to store videos securely, share them with your audience. Definitely, the quality is ensured and uploading/downloading is very convenient. Specific purpose videos, where you share manually, this would be a great platform. I will not recommend Vimeo if you are hoping to get exposure using this, as search engines do not show Vimeo videos on results. One has to be using Vimeo to find Vimeo videos. And Vimeo is not ideal for in-mail videos, as the video does not play in the mail, but opens on a new tab.

Pros

Vidyard

  • Customer Service: Their team is here to help solve challenges, keep you up to date on software/feature updates, and win with video.
  • Features: Their tools are robust, and their bolt on features consider the intangibles on your brand and how you can easily push your video content in your digital marketing stack.

Vimeo

  • The portfolio/collection template allows us to build out setlists very quickly but also gives us flexibility on the overall and look and feel. If you know even basic CSS you can do quite a bit with it.
  • Domain control. My clients are often particular about where certain videos can be embedded or shared. Vimeo allow me to specify exactly which sites the content can be embedded in.
  • Vimeo allows us to attach custom cover slides to every video, something that was a pain point with some of the other services we looked at.
  • Customer Service has always been very strong, especially when we needed to pull customized reports or massive collections of links
  • You can upload a replacement file to an existing asset with out worrying about the url or embed code changing.

Cons

Vidyard

  • The admin user interface has some navigation and metaphor challenges, making it hard to use many of the less common features.
  • For internal communications, the lack of commenting and annotation is an unfortunate limitation.
  • Lack of strong mobile app on Android is disappointing.

Vimeo

  • It's 2018 and streaming shouldn't be complicated. Unfortunately, despite accessing Vimeo from many locations (home computer, office, mobile, client's offices) Vimeo has continued to prove its total incompetence. I'm not sure if this is a hosting problem with Vimeo servers or if they just hate the few cities I've lived in. Video streaming can be easy with Vimeo, but I would never ever call it consistent. In most cases, when presented with a video link not related to work, I'll try to find the video elsewhere.
  • Because I haven't used Vimeo's revision system for close to 8 months at the time of this writing, Vimeo might have made changes, so keep that in mind. Vimeo is completely outmatched by similar client feedback applications like Wipster and Frame.io. After using other services, I've completely sworn off Vimeo. I don't think it's viable any longer because giving clients the ability to leave frame-by-frame feedback is far superior to the old method of simply sending a link. Furthermore, I believe Vimeo either owns Wipster or deeply collaborates, but Wipster is fairly unreliable as well. It's as if everything Vimeo touches burns to the ground.
  • Vimeo has also found a way to mess up playlists and video collections. YouTube makes it easy for adding videos to specific playlists, but Vimeo includes collections and albums, which to this day I'm still unsure why I would pick one over the other. Adding videos to these features is flustering rather than helpful. We'd learn the system but because of privacy settings for some videos, a few videos would show up, while others wouldn't. Even after testing this in the office, we'd still have a multitude of issues when clients would return confused emails.

I'm definitely going to continue to use the GoVideo app but would want to look around to see if there are better alternatives to create higher quality content and videos for all to see.

We use Vidyard Enterprise and Vidyard GoVideo. We have found the usability to meet our needs and would say Vidyard Enterprise use takes someone with moderate knowledge to execute, Vidyard GoVideo works for new or intermediate skill sets to leverage video

The customization options are vast and very easy to utilize. While there can be a slight learning curve for some advanced features, it is not so steep that it takes a long time to figure out. Support is great at guiding you through anything that might be confusing to you as well

It performs very well. I have never had any bugs while recording, and none of the videos have been impaired or corrupted. I don't believe it integrates with any other software but you could contact the company to learn more. I am not sure if it is only available on Chrome.

I had an initial question regarding how to ensure buttons remained on a video after a video had finished playing. The customer chat support was very quick to begin researching my question; they initially gave me a temporary solution but didn't stop there. Imagine my surprise when I received a ticket update from the customer service rep that they had reached out directly to their programmers to enquire how difficult and what would be required to add the function I had requested.

Vimeo has great customer support for their customers. They're always very quick to respond to our questions (on a pro membership). Unfortunately, we seem to have bumped up to their support limitations when we tried to move forward with their live streaming options. The support we need for this feature just isn't there yet.

Now that they have fixed how Marketo can read the Vidyard data I would more likely give this a 10, but when I implemented the system the old issue was a bit annoying.

Alternatives Considered

I've evaluated Hubspot, Pardot, Salesforce.com, SalesLogix, and Wistia. Wistia is also a video hosting platform. Originally I selected Wistia because their price was lower. I really wanted to go with Vidyard, but we had never used a video hosting platform. At the time, the price differential was an issue. It was an issue because we didn't fully understand the concept of video hosting platforms. After less than a year with Wistia, I had regretted not getting the platform that I really wanted. At the end of our agreement with Wistia, we switched. We've been very happy ever since

Vimeo Pro is simpler to use, has a beautiful interface and is more customizable than Youtube. One big issue I have with YouTube is that you have little control over what content is shown before, during or after your videos. This can cause issues with clarity on who your brand does or doesn't support. Vimeo Pro doesn't have really give the ability to wander through other's content which limits your exposure from being found.

  • This is from a CEO after receiving an email with a personalized Vidyard video embedded. "I've got to admit that your sales process is probably the best and most impressive I've encountered to date. I'd be happy to explore how you might be able to help us out. "{Mic Drop}.
  • We have been using Vidyard for about 6 months as a test. In 2020 we will be stepping up our use and formalizing the tracking and ROI.

  • Vimeo Pro has definitely improved our customer service: We are able to find videos in our library (over 5,000) quickly and efficiently to send our work to leads.
  • Our sales and marketing teams can create custom reels and send out to leads turning them into clients more quickly.
  • It just makes us seem more professional. Vimeo Pro playback looks incredible and we can customize the player to fit within the theme of our website without having to be developers.
