Our Client uses the IBM DB2 in onprem and we are trying to migrate the IBM DB2 on Z/OS to IBM DB2 on LUW on AWS Cloud.
  • Security
  • Scalability
  • Performance
  • Costing should be less
  • Some compatibility with Mainframe OS to be removed
It will be well suited for a big organization who want to have more performance, scalability and security with no issue on higher cost
  • No change in revenue as it was same when we migrate to cloud
Most of the Applications and batch jobs use the DB2, Appx nos will be 3000+ jobs and 100+ applications use it.
Yes, the business continuity is maintained with its high availability and no issues on that.
It was used in the current onprem and client provided option to migrate to cloud with change in platform.
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service)

We havent used any AI/ML features from Db2.

Db2 is used in factories, to collect all data about products produced.
It is used to insert/follow up orders of products
We also have a datawarehouse where we create all kind of statistics/reports
  • manageability
  • monitoring
  • easiness of use/administration
  • TSA and integration of other products
well suited : as Db2 is easy to use and administer, almost all scenarios where data is to be handled and/or be kept are suitable
the integration of XML is well done
  • makes follow up easier and we can act faster in case of problems discovered
we have small and larger databases. for the end-user we do not see any difference according the size.
it can handle both at the same speed
we have very few outages. we have hadr/tsa implemented to have high availability and automation of this process
sometimes it is difficult to make the suppport people to understand our problem
if you submit a case, they only read the last sentences and request info/data that already have submitted
no
I presume the price
Yes
yes multiple cases have been submitted and we received special builds to resolve these problems
that was long time ago, in a weekend having a problem with db2 and needed a contact with IBM Toronto
that problem was well handled and corrected.
another problem we had with db2 datajoiner and 2 persons from the lab had to come over to resolve the problem because a compile with debug was needed for the product

We are using DB2 as a primary database with one of our clients to store data generated by the GST software.
  • Reliable and fast
  • Easy to deploy and administer
  • Scalable as per the requirement
  • Micro options can be placed in more user intuitive interface
  • Documentation can be improved to include more information about micro options available in different menus in the UI
DB2 is best suited for the scenarios where you are already using the different products from the IBM ecosystem. It allows for easy integration between different tools.
  • Reliable and secure RDBMS
  • Fast deployment within IBM ecosystem which saves a lot of time
DB2 is one of the fast, reliable, secure, and robust databases.
The support experience is good. There is room for improvement in terms of the delivery of support services to customers.

In our organization, DB2 is being used as a database for our mobile app. We also use it for querying data for business analytics and marketing analytics insights. This is used in multiple departments in the organization. It allows us to generate reports for meeting with investors. It solves the issue of warehousing our customer data.
  • Business Analytics - facilitates data query to generate reports.
  • Integration - can connect with other software.
  • Easy - easy to learn and implement if you know SQL.
  • Database can run faster.
DB2 is suitable for various uses. The big use case is an online database where users can make online queries and generate batch reports.
  • Report generation was made easier.
  • We were able to pull useful insights.
MySQL was definitely faster in terms of making queries, but DB2 had many features that protected against errors and easier to use for SQL beginners.
Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), MySQL, Jupyter Notebook
DB2 provides a satisfactory solution to our business needs. However, we sometimes experience issues with query speed.
I haven't needed to contact the support team.

Currently IBM Db2 on Cloud is used by our Department, and our organization used a multi-vendor database approach so it's not the only database on cloud we have. We are currently storing daily feeds from our car measurements on the Db2 and then pull data for reports.
  • Easy to learn, install and query - great support. IBM is extremely good in support whenever you have any type of questions. You will find no issues on learning the language and installing.
  • Amazing performance on big queries : Never had issues on performance and we have a big chunk of data to pull.
  • UI : the UI can be improved to a great extent. Ideally we would want to see the UI/UX to match with latest trends.
  • Limitation to a 15TB database size for any edition below than ES for on-prem. I am sure Cloud solves it, but falls in the same range as others (sometimes higher), making it maybe not the first one to go to.
A great product - would not shy away at all. It has some great features that makes it easy to read and write. Their on-memory technology for on-prem is good and overall it's user friendly with its approach. I even like the IBM product support team on helping out on our issues. There is massive community support over online bugs and seems like one of my best go to tools for Data Science.
  • Positive : We have relied on this Db for more than 5 years (I have been relying for 3 years) and we were extremely comfortable to say that we surely got a high ROI.
  • Positive : Maintenance teams have mentioned many times that IBM is more cost-effective than Oracle when it comes to maintaining the DB.
IBM Db2 was our on-prem and the obvious way to go over to the cloud. As it was our native application, it was easy to migrate on-prem to cloud with ease. The new IBM PureData system for Analytics is on Netezza, which is a great appliance and easy-to-use & supports Business Intelligence and DSS systems at a cheaper cost. IBM Db2 on Cloud is great in having a compression feature and the in-memory system in BLU making it easy to deploy and support (better than HANA) with lower cost.
Easily the best product support team. :) Whenever we have questions, they have answered those in a timely manner and we like how they go above and beyond to help.
