As a professional services firm, we use GFI Systems MailEssentials with many of our clients. I, personally, support them on the system. It is comprehensive and allows me to customize the system for that specific client. (Everyone is different, right?) Internally, we use GFI Systems LanGuard for security for our clients. Again, it is a very comprehensive system! With GFI Systems LanGuard, we are able to find and fix security issues before they become a "disaster!" It doesn't just look for updates and viruses, it goes much, much deeper into the registry of each device. It has "saved" our clients many times! Keep up the good work, GFI Systems!
  • Finding security issues on devices that nothing else will find
  • Very customizable solutions for email and security
  • Good customer support--when we need help on something, we can get it
  • GFI Systems MailEssentials would be nice to have the possibility to block emails from overseas. Make that customizable, too!
  • Have a "lite" version of GFI Systems LanGuard so we can do a quick check, if we would like to
  • How about a special "partner" phone number for support? One where a partner can access support more quickly?
When our client wants to host email onsite, not in the cloud, our go-to is GFI Systems MailEssentials. You can set up allowed or blocked emails based on many parameters. The quarantine feature is easy to manage. Sometimes it "catches" too many emails. Easy to fix, though!
GFI Systems LanGuard is so comprehensive that initial scans take forever to run! But it is so comprehensive that it catches *everything*! Not just viruses, and lack of updates--it catches things in the endpoint's registry. And provides the full information on the endpoint in order to identify and fix it. Thanks, guys for great products!
  • I don't have hard numbers--but it has helped us keep clients because it's easy to use and does the job
  • We have saved our clients many times from security issues using GFI Systems products. This has helped our clients save tons of money--and keeps our clients onboard with us because we let them know what to do with the information.
GFI Systems MailEssentials is easier to use and much less expensive.

We primarily use GFI Systems to stay on top of our client's workstations and servers. Mostly we use it for patch management, to proactively spot and deal with issues, web protection as well as remotely troubleshoot problems. We do use it for backups in some cases but this feature isn't as robust as we'd like and it can get a bit pricey relative to other backup services.
  • Remote access to workstation works well
  • Web protection is decent but at times it does cause issues with some software
  • Gives us a convenient dashboard to have a overview of our client's network health.
  • Pricing can get a bit pricey especially if you add in all the bells and whistles.
Well suited if you want a central dashboard to manage multiple client's. Security issues does give us cause for concern.
  • GFI Systems does save us a lot of time and makes it very convenient to manage clients. Remote access usually works well.
  • For our business GFI Systems is a bit expensive. The total cost is like hiring a full time employee.
  • It would be nice if the backup function was more robust and better thought out. Until then, we are seeking another service for our client's backup needs.

GFI is a security suite that also does patch management. At our company, we used and tested this product in a proof of concept evaluation against many other similar products. Our company was mainly interested in its patch management capabilities that offers both agent and agentless scanning and deployments. At the end of the day, GFI is a great product that can suite companies in many different ways. For us, it offered too many things that we already had tools for. I believe any company that is looking for a full security suite tool kit would find this very useful, or for those who want everything in a single product.
  • Security is their main focus and they do an excellent job providing users the ability to use all tools in one product.
  • Their reports are very detailed and have the option to auto email key people with executive reports to keep track of vulnerabilities and patch status.
  • Keeping costs low, no other company could offer as much as they do for everything they offer.
  • Their agentless patch management could offer realtime status of when a patch fails, or completes.
  • Their 3rd party patching inventory could be larger.
  • Patches that are released should be vetted prior to release unless its a critical or important patch.
When a company wants a single platform that handles all security scanning and evaluation. I would also suggest to a small to medium-sized company that wants a patch management and security vulnerability tool that isn't going to break the bank.
  • GFI was on par with other patching software but offered more tools. In that, it was a great value.
  • we chose a different software that was more inline with our needs, as we didn't need everything that GFI offered. GFI was our runner up.
  • GFI gets the job done, there is no question about that. I would suggest any company to at least continue with a POC.
Of the two others in the list that we compared to GFI offers the same capabilities that the other two do but that it's also a security suite for the same price and product. The other two offer everything that GFI does but for a higher cost. Ivanti had a live update on the status of patch deployments which is something we wanted. Qualis does not offer agentless patching or scanning. We use Qualis for other purposes so it was considered.
The Support zteam for GFI was with us all the way through, and I believe that they had the best support team of all the products that we use and/or tested.
