Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce
I've previously used Magento as an e-commerce platform because the open-source aspect was appealing to me at the time. It ultimately led to much more work and upkeep. Having a built-in CDN is great and there are a lot of capabilities with the apps that are available as add-ons. It took very little time to come up to speed in regards to the functionality. The user interface is very user-friendly. Being able to control each user's permissions is great too. I've never had any issues with the website or checkout loading slowly and a lot of our customers comment on how easy the website is to navigate and use. Linking orders to accounts is a huge plus. We don't like to require users to have an account but when they do decide later on to create an account, a few clicks can link their past orders to their new account. I look forward to continuing to use BigCommerce in the future and I am very confident that it will continue to be a solution that fits our needs.
Pros
- Customer support
- Plans for all size businesses.
- Content delivery.
- Checkout.
- Available apps.
Cons
- Lower cost.
- More modern email templates.
- Endless scrolling.
- We still require 3rd party integrations such as Ship Station and Klaviyo.
- We also need a 3rd party product/inventory solution to update our inventory from our distributor's feeds.
- The payment and shipping options out of the box are great.
$1 to $10 million
We actually use a 3rd party service to manage our APIs from our distributors. Things such as inventory and pricing are regularly updated through the APIs. This was started before I began at this company so I am not sure what the limitations were that led to the decision to go to a 3rd party solution.
Open source Magento was a full-time job. Now, I have a lot more freedom giving me the ability to take on more responsibilities and get my job done more efficiently. There were many headaches associated with Magento and depreciating version 1 and forcing users to migrate to version 2 was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
